What’s Eating Aunt Debbie?

Like so many of you, I have too much on my mind and I’m suffering from insomnia. I’m lucky if I sleep 6 hours once a week! Last month, I had slept 5 nights of 6 hours or more. All other nights were 4 hours or less. No lie. Yes, I have been keeping track so I have something to show my NP on my next visit.

So, you may be wondering what’s been bothering me? Maybe the same things that are bothering you! And I’m going to say right now up front and without hesitation, this blog is based on MY life, MY feelings and MY opinions. If you don’t agree that’s your prerogative but if you can’t be respectful then don’t fucking comment!

COVID. Yes, the topic that everyone is sick of. But being sick of hearing about it isn’t going to make it go away! Making it go away will be a joint effort of everyone and I don’t see that happening anytime soon. Some people think it’s all about them and their personal freedom. Guess what? It’s not about the individual. It’s about the entire country; your state, your community. If you don’t want to wear a mask, then don’t. If you don’t want to get vaccinated, then don’t. I just pray that COVID skips your dumb ass and that you don’t infect your children, grandchildren, elderly parents, siblings, or the innocent immune-compromised shopper that you infected as you sneezed while in the produce aisle, because you don’t seem to care about those people when you refuse to wear a mask. Thankfully, the number of deaths have gone down BUT I’m pretty sure we’ll have another surge eventually. Not enough folks want to get the vaccine to help stop the virus and at the very least, won’t wear a mask because they think masks don’t work or it violates their freedom. Pfftt…

I just don’t get it. The mentality.

Masks work. If they didn’t then there would be no need for your dentist to wear a mask while bent over your open mouth. If masks didn’t work then there would be no reason for surgeons to wear one while removing your gallbladder or doing open-heart surgery. Duh.

Vaccines save lives, too. Think about polio, pertussis, measles, mumps and many other communicable diseases that have been nearly eliminated. Are there risks involved in getting one of the COVID vaccines? Of course there is, just as there are risks getting any vaccine or taking any medication. The benefit outweighs the risk! I think some people would prefer to be ignorant of facts and science. UGH.

Some people are nuts. Seriously. They refuse the vaccine because they “don’t know what’s in it.” Come on. Give me a break! You don’t know what’s in that McRib sandwhich, Nacho flavored Doritos, or numerous other products either but you consume them like they’re the best thing under the sun. If you get sick with strep throat, the doctor will prescribe an antibiotic. You don’t refuse that, either, do you? You don’t know what’s in it. Why do you take it?

All of this crap is just exhausting. No one seems to want to do the right thing anymore. People are hateful for no reason. Behaving badly seems to be the new normal. It seems people don’t have a problem being UGLY to each other.

So, I stay home. I don’t venture out for much these days. I go to appointments and pick up a few groceries now and again. Mostly I use pick up services and drive up windows. I have very little use for most humans anymore.

Top Ten Tuesday – Money-Saving Tips

With prices on the rise, we all have to do what we can to save money. Some folks have to work a little harder in order to do that, so I know every little tip helps! I’ve decided to share a few of my ideas here. Check them out below, and please share in the comments a few of your money-saving ideas!

~~~
★Purchase cloth napkins and paper towels. Why throw paper products in the trash when you can use cloth products, toss them in the wash, and use them again? You can find hand cut and sewn cloth napkins and paper towels on Etsy like I did or even buy plain white cloth washcloths to use as napkins and/or paper towels. Even if you don’t use them all the time, you can still cut down your paper usage, reduce waste, and save money.
★Purchase a vacuum sealer to preserve foods before storing in the freezer. Foods last longer and do not get that dreaded freezer burn! You’ll save money on food that would normally go bad before you use it. Using zip lock freezer bags is another way to save your foods, but be sure to squeeze all the air out of the bag before freezing!
★Sign up for Amazon Prime! If you are low income and can show proof, your Prime membership fee is just half of the regular price. Amazon Prime will save you hundreds in shipping costs if you’re making a lot of purchases.
★If you are low income and receive SNAP benefits, you can add your card number to your Amazon account and purchase eligible food items with SNAP.
★Make your own cleaning spray. 2 cups white vinegar and 1/4 cup blue Dawn dish soap makes a spray you can use on counters, in tubs and sinks, toilets, and many other surfaces. If using on surfaces that will come into contact with food, then rinse with water. Add tea tree essential oil for disinfecting or citrus essential oil for a fresh clean scent. This spray also cleans the funky discoloration in stainless steel pots and pans.
★Switch to a pre-paid cell phone service. Straight Talk offers a $45.00 monthly service with unlimited calls and texts. Straight Talk carries smart phones and are internet capable. Ditch the high monthly charges with contract phones! A pay-as-you-go service will provide you with what you need without the added costs.
★Make your own freezer meals and meal kits. There are hundreds of sites that provide recipes and tips for making tasty and quick meals. This could save you a lot of time in the kitchen and allow you to spend more time with your family at the end of a busy day. I visit Six Sisters Stuff for freezer meal ideas, crock pot and instant pot recipes and more! You’ll find plenty of ideas on You Tube as well.
★Reduce the number of times you eat out by cooking at home! Google “copycat recipes” and learn to make your family’s favorite restaurant foods at home!
★”Only Pay For What You Need” is an insurance campaign slogan that I, for one, am sick of hearing, but setting aside insurance needs, this slogan is pretty true. I’m guilty of buying more of certain items just because they’re on sale, but I’ve learned to pay more attention. Since it’s just me and Dad now, I don’t need large amounts of food items. I do purchase a few bottles of ketchup or mustard, canned goods, when there’s a sale but a large 20 lb. bag of potatoes? No. Not even if it’s on sale, because I end up throwing half the bag away! We just don’t go through that many potatoes! So, watch what you’re doing and plan your purchases! Only pay for what you need!
★Shop at The Dollar Tree! I can hear some of you already. Don’t be a snob. There are good items at The Dollar Tree! They have some name brand items you may already purchase, like Orange Crush soda, Dawn dishwashing liquid, Libbey’s canned vegetables, Healthy Choice soups, Banquet Pot Pies, Crest and Colgate toothpastes, and many other brands. I never purchase food items that come from China or are suspicious in any way, but I have no problem with products coming from Poland, India, Spain, or Italy. You’ll find school supplies, party supplies, and greeting cards at The Dollar Tree! You’re going to save money shopping there, and did I mention that everything is $1.00, unlike Dollar General? But better take advantage while you can because that dollar item may go up soon! The Dollar Tree may begin adding the $1.50 and up aisle because of rising prices!
Being disabled and on a fixed income, I’ve had to find ways to make my life easier. Having pain and mobility issues things are difficult already, so I’m always looking for shortcuts! Then add Covid-19 to the mix and you get even more difficulty! Do you have any money-saving tips or ideas that have helped you through this Covid-19 time of our lives?
What’s Eating Aunt Debbie?
There’s a lot on my mind lately. Personal issues, of course, are always on my mind. But there are many other issues that really get my blood boiling!
“My Body, My Choice” seems to be the go-to slogan for those opposed to mask wearing and vaccines, but when it comes to women having autonomy over their own bodies, that slogan doesn’t apply. Such hypocrisy!
I don’t believe that abortion should be used as a form of birth control. However, no female should be forced into having a child that was forced upon her; the result of a rape. And why shouldn’t a woman (with her partner, if applicable) be able to terminate a pregnancy that isn’t viable for some reason, like in a tubal pregnancy? There are many circumstances that can result in the death of the woman. Why isn’t her life important? Women should have autonomy over their own bodies! If you don’t believe in abortion, then don’t get one but don’t go pushing your damn beliefs on others!!
Anti-Vaxxers and Anti-Maskers where the hell do you get off harassing others for getting the vaccine or wearing masks? If you have the right to choose for yourself, then others should have the same right, even if that choice is different than yours!!! STOP making asses of yourselves and mind your own business!
I just don’t know what’s wrong with some people! Why would people go into businesses, such as restaurants, drug stores, and airports, screaming and yelling at the employees? It doesn’t matter the reason. So what if they’re too slow or if they ask you to wear a mask. The employees are doing the best they can, perhaps working with less staff than normal, and they aren’t the ones who have ordered the mandates. STOP making things more difficult for them! They’re just doing their job. Here’s a solution: GO SOMEWHERE ELSE IF YOU DON’T LIKE THEIR PRACTICES!
Let’s not forget the protestors harassing women and children walking to and from school! It is NOT child abuse to get your children vaccinated! Vaccines save lives. Do a little research and you’ll see how many lives have been saved from diseases like polio, measles, rubella, pertussis, etc. over the past decades! If you don’t want to vaccinate YOUR children from Covid-19, then that’s on YOU if your child becomes ill and dies. THAT would be YOUR fault and THAT would be child abuse, IMO!
Do I sound angry? You bet your ass I’m angry. I’m sick and tired of people behaving like spoiled rotten children. I’m saddened at what the future of the United States looks like. I grew up with a great love and respect for this country and I still love my country, but I am totally ashamed and disgusted with some people, hypocrisy, and hatefulness that seems to have swallowed us whole.
Jack (on the left) and Alice fighting for attention – can’t give one ‘nubbins’ without the the other! Alice is disgusted that she has to share mom with Jack and Jack is disgusted that he has to share mom with Alice!
Have a super Caturday from Jack and his Pack of Troublemakers!
Friday’s Funnies – My Faves This Week
It’s been busy here this past week. We’ve been getting things ready for winter weather. The well-house needs to be reinforced with insulation, especially if we have weather like we did last winter! We don’t want frozen and/or busted pipes again! So many things need attention and Dad is keeping busy with little things while waiting for supplies to be delivered and my son to be able to come over to help.
I’ve been busy planning meals and creating freezer meal kits so I don’t have so much work later on. It’s getting harder and harder for me to cook even the simplest things, with all the prep work and standing. So, freezer meal kits are a Godsend. If I do a couple of them a week, then I have meals for later that are basically just dump-and-go!
I’m trying to stay positive and keep my sense of humor alive! Some days it’s easier than others; Friday’s Funnies helps. I hope the funnies help you, too! What do you do to retain your sense of humor in this screwed up world?
Here’s this week’s collection. I hope you find them all funny or at least amusing!
I guess I didn’t get very many funnies saved this week. Sorry about that! Maybe next week will be better! Did you have a fave from this week’s collection?? I think I like the Hamster and ParmaJawn the best!
Well, I’m off to make my homemade Sloppy Joe mix; some of which will be frozen in portions for later on.
Have a great weekend! See you next time,
