What’s Eating Aunt Debbie?

Like so many of you, I have too much on my mind and I’m suffering from insomnia. I’m lucky if I sleep 6 hours once a week! Last month, I had slept 5 nights of 6 hours or more. All other nights were 4 hours or less. No lie. Yes, I have been keeping track so I have something to show my NP on my next visit.

So, you may be wondering what’s been bothering me? Maybe the same things that are bothering you! And I’m going to say right now up front and without hesitation, this blog is based on MY life, MY feelings and MY opinions. If you don’t agree that’s your prerogative but if you can’t be respectful then don’t fucking comment!

COVID. Yes, the topic that everyone is sick of. But being sick of hearing about it isn’t going to make it go away! Making it go away will be a joint effort of everyone and I don’t see that happening anytime soon. Some people think it’s all about them and their personal freedom. Guess what? It’s not about the individual. It’s about the entire country; your state, your community. If you don’t want to wear a mask, then don’t. If you don’t want to get vaccinated, then don’t. I just pray that COVID skips your dumb ass and that you don’t infect your children, grandchildren, elderly parents, siblings, or the innocent immune-compromised shopper that you infected as you sneezed while in the produce aisle, because you don’t seem to care about those people when you refuse to wear a mask. Thankfully, the number of deaths have gone down BUT I’m pretty sure we’ll have another surge eventually. Not enough folks want to get the vaccine to help stop the virus and at the very least, won’t wear a mask because they think masks don’t work or it violates their freedom. Pfftt…

I just don’t get it. The mentality.

Masks work. If they didn’t then there would be no need for your dentist to wear a mask while bent over your open mouth. If masks didn’t work then there would be no reason for surgeons to wear one while removing your gallbladder or doing open-heart surgery. Duh.

Vaccines save lives, too. Think about polio, pertussis, measles, mumps and many other communicable diseases that have been nearly eliminated. Are there risks involved in getting one of the COVID vaccines? Of course there is, just as there are risks getting any vaccine or taking any medication. The benefit outweighs the risk! I think some people would prefer to be ignorant of facts and science. UGH.

Some people are nuts. Seriously. They refuse the vaccine because they “don’t know what’s in it.” Come on. Give me a break! You don’t know what’s in that McRib sandwhich, Nacho flavored Doritos, or numerous other products either but you consume them like they’re the best thing under the sun. If you get sick with strep throat, the doctor will prescribe an antibiotic. You don’t refuse that, either, do you? You don’t know what’s in it. Why do you take it?

All of this crap is just exhausting. No one seems to want to do the right thing anymore. People are hateful for no reason. Behaving badly seems to be the new normal. It seems people don’t have a problem being UGLY to each other.

So, I stay home. I don’t venture out for much these days. I go to appointments and pick up a few groceries now and again. Mostly I use pick up services and drive up windows. I have very little use for most humans anymore.

If I hear one more person say, “Masks don’t work,” I’m going to ram my crutch up their ass.

If masks didn’t work, then doctors, nurses, and dentists wouldn’t wear them.

Why do they wear them?

To prevent droplets of bodily fluids that may contain viruses and other germs from escaping through their mouth and/or nose. They also protect the wearer against sprays and splashes from others, such as from sneezes and coughs. Surgeons wear masks during surgeries to protect their faces from sprays and splashes from the patient and to protect the patient from germs coming from the surgeon’s mouth and/or nose from entering the patient’s wound.

Why would they wear masks if masks didn’t work?

I wish people would stop being so damn stupid!

I have even read articles by (supposed) doctors who say masks don’t work! What the literal hell? I don’t know about you, but I don’t have time to research every article and every person who writes those articles to see if they are actually REAL doctors. Whether they are real doctors or not, makes no difference. They are still full of shit. Masks DO work.

Will wearing a mask provide 100% protection from Covid-19? NO, but it will slow the virus and maybe we could see the number of cases and deaths go down considerably, instead of major surges with no end in sight. OVER 200,000 deaths in the United States!

My nephew said it quite well earlier this month. He said, “If I can wear my mask for 10 hours at work then it won’t kill other people to wear one while they pick up groceries.”

I wish I had more time tonight because I have so much more to say. I’ll just end this post by posing a question to those of you who think masks don’t work:

If you were going in for a heart transplant, gallbladder removal, tonsillectomy, or any other surgery – Wouldn’t you want your surgeon to wear a mask? Or if you were taking care of someone who had an infectious disease such as MRSA, wouldn’t YOU wear protective gear, including a mask?

What’s Eating Aunt Debbie?

There’s a lot going on in the world today. We’re all having our own struggles with this, that, and the other. I find that writing about what’s bothering me, helps me so I’ve started this piece called, “What’s Eating Aunt Debbie.” Some things may not be that big of a deal, but it still bothers me. Some things you may or may not agree with and that’s fine. Don’t agree. I don’t care. Just move on to another blog. Rude comments will be deleted. It’s not that I can’t handle different opinions. I just get sick and tired of being slammed for MINE.

I don’t know about you, but I’m really glad WordPress has a spam filter! I guess idiots have nothing better to do than to seek out other idiots…but I’m not an idiot. I have a few words for those who leave spam comments:

*I am not interested in your Viagra, Cialis, or other sexual enhancement drugs. Nor am I interested in cheap antibiotics. In fact, I am not interested in anything you would try to sell me via a comment on my blog. If I want something, I know how to find it and I would buy from a reputable source, no matter what it is.

*If you are upset that I have “too many words” on my blog and “not enough photos” perhaps Where’s Waldo would be more appropriately suited for your IQ. There are many preschool picture books available, too. You can find them on Amazon or at Walmart, but maybe you should have a grown-up help you with that.

*If you’re going to comment on my blog, it might get past the spam filters if the comment had anything whatsoever to do with the post you’re commenting on! Come on!

*And I have no idea what language this is: kflwgfywehkwiohfwkjefskjf BUT knock it off! Seriously. Are you just hitting keys on the keyboard?

Over 45,000 COVID-19 cases in one day in the US! That was last Friday! Wear a freakin’ mask and use social distancing! Social distancing was helping. Wearing a mask was helping. States started opening up (too early IMO) and now we are getting slammed with more and more cases; some record highs being reported.

EU will ban US travelers. Can you blame them? We don’t have a handle on the virus and we never will as long as people won’t take some responsibility. This isn’t just about the individual and individual freedom of choice! This is about our communities, our society, our future. Wear a mask and use social distancing. Stop going to parties, bars, the beach, and to Church. It’s just temporary, for cripes sake. Don’t be a baby.

Oh, and that music festival that’s being planned? The one they are calling “Herd Immunity Fest” – yeah, that’s the stupidest fucking thing I’ve heard – no, I take that back. As long as Donald Trump is in office, every day I will hear “the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.” If you think it’s a good idea for everyone to “just get the virus and be done with it” then you seriously need to read some personal accounts of how awful this virus really is!

To those who think you can get CO2 poisoning from wearing a mask or that the particles will still pass through a mask when you breathe out: If either of those were FACTS, then doctors and nurses would not wear masks during surgical procedures. Some surgeries last for hours. Think about it. If they could get CO2 poisoning from wearing a mask, they’d be passing out in the middle of surgeries! They wear a surgical mask “to prevent the passage of germs from the surgeon’s nose and mouth into the patient’s wound and to protect the surgeon’s face from sprays and splashes from the patient.” Granted, a cloth mask would be less protection than a surgical mask BUT it’s better than no protection at all. We should all be wearing one, especially where social distancing is not attainable. None of us know if we are ASYMPTOMATIC or PRE-SYMPTOMATIC unless we get tested. We’re all in this together. Why not protect each other?
