Friday’s Funnies – Christmas Edition #2 (Sorry, Not Sorry!)

maxresdefault.jpg

I can’t believe there’s just one more Friday after today before Christmas! Time has flown by but still, I will be much happier when the holidays are over! I’m fed up with the commercialism and bull squirt. I just happened to say, “Merry Christmas” to someone I know the other day. She reminded me in a snotty tone that we are to say “Happy Holidays” now to include everyone. I reminded her that I have a mind of my own and will say whatever the hell I want to and if someone doesn’t like it then that’s just too bad! If someone is offended by the words “Merry Christmas” then that’s their problem, not mine. If someone said, “Happy Hannukkah” or “Happy Kwanzaa” to me, I would take it as that person wishing me well and I would thank them. No harm, no foul. People suck the goodness and fun out of the holidays, and I’m done with it.

I’ve not been online much so I hadn’t collected many funnies for today. I had to dig deep to find some good ones. I hope these make you chuckle, even if you’re sick of the holidays like me.

These clips (and one trailer) are from 3 of our favorite Christmas movies. Mild language in the first clip. The third one might be considered highly inappropriate by some, so BEWARE LANGUAGE!! Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Scrambled Eggs For Brains

I despise this time of year for several reasons. The main reason, and most personal, is the lack of grandkids filling my home. I had so hoped for a full house of littles in my 50’s but I guess that’s just not meant to be. I have 4 grandkids now and the most I can hope for is a little time spent with the youngest.

Another reason for my loathing of the holidays is the fact that everything is so commercialized. It’s all about how many millions of dollars brick and mortar stores and online shops can pull in and about damn near every family in America feeling the need to go broke just to provide their families with gifts that they don’t need, don’t want or just don’t freakin’ deserve. I mean, how many teenagers have you known who deserved a brand-spankin’ new car for Christmas? I’m sure there are some out there, don’t get me wrong, but I’ve seen the worst, most spoiled brat teenagers get brand new cars and it makes me want to drop-kick their parents off a cliff.

I try to make my nieces and nephews crocheted items every year…which is getting rather difficult because there’s so damn many of them! My grandkids get crocheted afghans or toys, or whatever their parents think they need or might like. My kids get something useful because at their ages (30 and 33) they can buy their own expensive toys and be happy with a kitchen gadget or something of that nature. I bought Dad a motorized antenna because he insists that he doesn’t need DirecTV in his bedroom. The old-school antenna fell down months and months ago so he’s been without tv in his bedroom. He knew what I was getting him because I needed him to check it out first to make sure it was something he could use or would want. He did and so there ya go. Now he says he doesn’t know what to get me so I should pick something out for myself from him and surprise him. Always a joker. Now I have to decide what I want.

I’m really exhausted…mentally and physically. My brain is just scrambled most of the time. I can’t focus. As I type this, I have to keep checking my spelling because inevitably I turn the letters around or leave letters out. That’s not normal for me. I thought maybe it was just from doing Thanksgiving dinner, which we had the Sunday following Thanksgiving because I needed time to prepare after being sick for 12 days. I tried to make it as easy on myself as possible. I made absolutely nothing homemade. It should have been easy, right? After all, dinner was just four people and everything was boxed, canned, instant, frozen, and/or just needed simple assembly. The turkey breast soaked in a brine for 2 days and on Sunday morning I tossed it in the roaster. I was in so much pain afterward…and I’m still paying for it. I thought I would feel much better by now.

Our traditional fixings for our Christmas Eve (homemade pizza, pizza balls, and popcorn cake) will have to be made by my son or he just won’t get them this year. I just can’t do it anymore. Last year, he came over to help me make them and all was going well until I fell like a dumbass. I had huge bruises on my thigh and didn’t walk right for a week.

I’m not even going to put up my little tree like I did last year. I just don’t have it in me. I have no motivation, no inspiration, no desire. That’s what chronic illness does. It takes away a person’s desire to do the things he/she used to love to do. It’s exhausting

I still have packages to ship, a few gifts to wrap, and Christmas dinner to plan. I think I’m just going to buy a ham and some baked beans and be done with it. Nothing special…but gotta have my ham! If my brain isn’t already scrambled enough, going to Walmart will surely drive me to the brink of insanity!

Friday’s Funnies – Christmas Edition #1

I nearly forgot about Friday’s Funnies! Shame on me! I’ve got so many things going on right now – mostly in my head – but I’ll save that for another post. I hope you enjoy these funnies!

Next week, provided I don’t forget, I’ll share more Christmas funnies! I hope you liked this edition! Have a super weekend but don’t be in a rush. So many things can go wrong when we’re in a rush and during the holidays it’s just double-trouble! So, drive carefully, eat slowly and love with your whole heart. Enjoy the season…

Thankfulness & Gratitude

Happy Turkey! Well, that’s what we say in our family! Most of you are eagerly waiting for turkey and pie, visiting with family, or maybe waiting for family to arrive on this drizzly, cold morning. Me? I’m sitting here writing this because we’re having our turkey dinner on Sunday! My son, his wife and my youngest grandson will be joining us.

While I was sick I neglected several chores so I’ve been playing catch up. Hopefully, by Saturday, I’ll be caught up and can make my pies. The turkey breast (because that’s the best part and just enough for us) is in the refrigerator thawing. Next step, it will bathe in a highly seasoned brine until Sunday. I’m making myself hungry just thinking about it.

There are many things to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. On Facebook, I participated in the 30 Days of Thanksgiving Challenge, where for each day you share something you’re thankful for. I’m going to do something similar here but I’m sharing with you everything at once. I hope amidst all the food and chatter, laughter and photos, you’ve also taken some time to be thankful. Sometimes, life gets hard and we tend to forget about the little things, but we all have something to be thankful for. Here’s my list, in no particular order:

  • I’m thankful for my Dad. He is my rock and my best friend. He’s my comedy relief. He’ll be 83 in February and I know he won’t be here forever so I just enjoy every minute with him, even when he drives me bonkers!
  • I’m thankful for my grown children. They are my heart, my inspiration. They will always have my unconditional love and support. I’m so proud of the amazing adults they’ve become.
  • I’m thankful for the beautiful little people in my life whom I call my grandkids. They are each special in their own little way, and I love them all to the moon and back. Two of them are growing up too dang fast and I’m pretty sure the two youngest ones will be following shortly. I wish I could see them more often than I do. I miss them more than words can say. I love you, my littles!!
  • I’m thankful for old friends, new friends and everyone in between.
  • I’m thankful for my furbabies, past, and present. I’m thankful for the unconditional love and the fact that they don’t talk back…except when I’m late feeding them!
  • I’m thankful for my sisters. My first true friends in life, always and forever.
  • I’m thankful for the small things in life: a cup of hot coffee, a warm blanket, a cat purring in my lap, 4 deer wandering outside, and a lone bird chirping outside my bedroom window. The little things that keep me grounded, that give me a sense of calm amidst the chaos of today.
  • I’m thankful to a great man who stepped up to be the Dad my grandson never had. That man is fighting Alzheimer’s / FTD. He has my complete respect and gratitude.
  • I’m thankful for Mexican food, which I have gone without since I first got sick. I cannot wait until I can eat at my fave restaurant again! Soon!
  • I’m thankful for hot chocolate, hot coffee, hot tea, and hot soup…because it gets cold in the winter!
  • I am thankful to the brave servicemen and women who fought for our freedom and their families who supported them.
  • I’m thankful that amid my chronic pain and mobility issues there’s a couple of things I can still do – competently. I can crochet and I do it every day. Not only does it keep the arthritis in my fingers at bay, but it also keeps me creating and using my brain. I can also drive. I take pride in the fact that I have never had an accident or even got a parking ticket. I have astonished Dad at times at how I maneuver the car. I can still read and write, which I need to do more of. I’m thankful my mind is still intact, mostly…
  • I am thankful for Mucinex, Tylenol, Nasal Strips, and Kleenex!
  • I’m thankful for good food and Mai Tais, Mudslides, and La Banderas!
  • I’m thankful for music; music that takes me back to better days, music that helps me get through the rough stuff, and music that makes me bang my head!
  • I’m very thankful to my new blogging friends. It’s wonderful to find others you have so much in common with and who really care about you.
  • I’m so very thankful for the people in my life who actually notice when something’s not quite right and check on me. I can count them on one hand but they’re the best.
  • I’m thankful for the kind and considerate people; folks that hold open doors, checkers who pack greeting cards carefully so they won’t get bent. the man at Walmart who sees me coming and meets me at the door with a scooter, the receptionist who smiles and is pleasant even though she’s tired, and so many others. There are real jerks in the world but there are very good people here, too!
  • I’m thankful for a sense of humor because without it I’d be doomed. I’m very proud to have inherited my funny bone from my Dad.
  • I’m thankful for cough drops, lemon drops, chicken soup, slippery elm bark, and sore throat spray because some idiot always shares their germs and I end up sick.
  • I’m thankful for heaters, blankets, and a heating pad because sometimes it’s just too cold!
  • I’m thankful to Dad for bringing me soup and tea when I was sick. He tried so hard to help me feel better.
  • I’m thankful to be an American citizen, where I have the right to think for myself and make my own decisions. I can speak my mind and have an opinion that may not be the same as others.
  • I’m thankful to have a roof over my head and a nice, warm bed to sleep in. Some folks don’t have that.

There are many other things I’m thankful for this year, but I could be here all day…and I have many chores to get caught up on before Sunday! I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner with those who brighten your day! Be good to each other, eat the good food and relax!

Happy Turkey!!

Friday’s Funnies – My Faves This Week

Well, I’m still kicking! I still feel a bit icky but I’m getting better, slowly. Dad has a bit of a cough now and on his Day 4, he’s not as sick as I was on my Day 4. If we’re both still sick next week, Thanksgiving will be cancelled! I’m not going to make myself sicker! I’m fed up with being sick the way it is! On the bright side, I’ve lost 5 lbs. from eating nothing but soup and crackers!

I tried to save funnies throughout the week, even though I was sick. We need to laugh…it’s good for our health! Even when we’re sick! I just hope I chose some good ones – good ones that make YOU laugh! You be the judge! Enjoy!

How’d I do? Did you laugh? Do you have a favorite? Do tell!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and an even better Thanksgiving! Be safe, be kind and laugh a LOT!
