Imagine…

Imagine a place, unlike your safe and comfortable home. Imagine your neighborhood being bombed and your children afraid and crying. Imagine not knowing if your family will survive.

Imagine your neighbor’s children being abducted for sex trafficking. Imagine being fearful that your children will be next.

Imagine your spouse has been brutally murdered by men with powerful guns, your children witnessing this atrocity.

Imagine your family starving and ill from malnutrition. Imagine living in filth; unclean water, no clean clothing, rodents sharing the same living quarters. Imagine living in such poverty!

Imagine traveling a great distance, in dangerous conditions, trying to get your family to a safer place.

migration-2698946_960_720

Imagine seeking safety, freedom, and a future for your children. Imagine fighting for a chance to have a life as the life you have now.

Wouldn’t you pray for help if you were in a dire situation? Wouldn’t you try to get away to safer ground, to protect your children?

There are many, many reasons why people travel such great distances to other countries like the US. It shouldn’t matter the color of their skin or the country they came from. It shouldn’t matter their religion. They are HUMAN BEINGS. Let’s treat them as such.

Should we take care of the people in our own country? Yes, of course. But does that mean turning our backs on people who are less fortunate just because they’re not from the US? Should we not help them because they’re brown or black or a shade other than white?

migration-3129299_960_720

Once here, should children be separated from their parents and put in cages? YES, they are CAGES! Imagine that! How would you feel if your children were separated from you? You don’t know if they’re being taken care of or if they’re hungry or cold. You don’t know if they’re crying for you, wondering why you haven’t come for them. They are most definitely scared!

Immigrants made this country what it is today, like it or not. Not all people entering this country are trying to soak us for what they can get. Some are coming from places like El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras – which are the most dangerous places on Earth! These people are looking for a better life for themselves and their children!

I’m not saying we should have open borders. I’m saying we need to treat people with some compassion!

Earworm – Bohemian Rhapsody

What is an earworm, you ask?

It’s a tune or song that gets stuck in your brain! It’s that song that’s playing in your head as soon as you wake up in the morning and plays all day long. Sometimes it’s a good song or tune but sometimes it’s awful and drives you bonkers.

Thankfully, today I woke up with Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody stuck in my head. Love it!

The Ex-Files – The Electric Bill

electric-2755681_960_720

In my home town, our electric company would send a notice to shut off power if and when your bill became 3 times your average monthly bill. So if my average bill was $100 and it reached $300 without being paid, then a shut-off notice would arrive in the mail.

When this happened, and thankfully it wasn’t often, I called them to make payment arrangements. That way, I could keep the power on until CP’s next paycheck, at least. They were good about working with their customers. It wasn’t often that our electric bill would get out of hand because I was the one in charge of paying the bills. Later on, when CP took over, he wouldn’t even open the damn bills!

This particular time I got behind on the bills because of doctor visits and we had to pay out of pocket because we had no insurance. I figured I’d just “rob Peter to pay Paul” as they say and as I had done many times. We were living paycheck to paycheck and sometimes we didn’t even make it. Borrowing money from my Dad or my Grandmother became par for the course.

When the shut-off notice came I really didn’t want to have to borrow money yet again, so I tried the old “rob Peter to pay Paul” bit and I just couldn’t quite work it out. Too many bills that pay period. I was able to extend the shut-off date by about 5 days, so that was something. I explained to CP the situation, and he told me in no uncertain terms that he would take care of it and was sure his uncle would help us out. Of course, I was skeptical, knowing CP the way I did. I made sure he knew the shut-off date, day, and time (which was by 5pm). “Don’t worry about it,” he said. “I’ll take care of it.”

It was Monday and 2 weeks had passed. We had until Wednesday, 5pm to get the bill paid. I reminded CP. He got that ‘pissed off for being reminded’ look on his face that I wanted to smack off with a cast iron skillet. I knew what I had to do because I knew what was going to happen. Just like always, I was the one who had to take care of everything.

I borrowed the money to pay the electric bill from my grandmother on Tuesday and went to the electric company office and paid the bill in person. I was relieved but pissed that it fell on me, yet again. I didn’t say a word about borrowing the money or paying the bill to CP when he came home that day. He had had 2 weeks to go see his uncle about borrowing the money. He had come home by 1pm nearly every day both of those weeks. What does he do? He waits until the last possible freakin’ minute, just as I knew he would.

He came home Wednesday, a bit later than he had for the last couple weeks. It was 3pm. He went in to take a shower. A good, long hot shower that lasted for an hour, I might add. It was now 4pm. He came out of the shower, got dressed and while putting his shoes on he told me he was going to his uncle’s house to borrow that money. I was so freakin’ angry I told him, “Don’t bother. I already took care of it because I knew you wouldn’t.” He started to raise his voice and say something. I interrupted him, “You and I both know that IF you got the money for the bill, by the time you get to the electric company office to make the payment it would have been closed and our power shut off. That’s what happens when you wait until the last fucking minute!” He was pissed, which I knew he would be. How dare I not tell him I took care of it already? How dare I cause him the extra work of taking a shower! I knew what he was thinking but he knew better than to say it out loud.

You see, he was a coward for such a narcissistic asshole. He knew that if he started an argument he would lose. He also knew better than to hit me because I told him after our second date so many years prior that if he ever did hit me, he’d better make it good because when I get up he’d be the sorriest son of a bitch that ever walked the face of the Earth.

Go me, right? It worked. He never hit me, ever.

Friday’s Funnies – My Faves This Week

I bet you thought I forgot? Ha! It’s been a crazy day absolutely, but I didn’t forget! I hope you’ve had a better day. We’ve had an infestation of flying termites and I’m more than disgusted. It’s no wonder the house is falling down. Well, maybe these funnies will cheer me up, too! Enjoy!

There ya have it, folks. Which one’s your fave? I can’t decide between the worm experiment, smart ass, and tuba kid. Oh well, who says we have to choose just one?!

Have a super weekend everyone!

Wet Noodle, Wild Cat

It’s been a rough day. Not for me, but for Alice and Jack. I took them in for their routine vaccinations and they were NOT happy. They were upset with me first thing because I wouldn’t give them have any dry food, as I normally do each morning. Every time I walked toward their food area, they dashed ahead of me, thinking I was finally going to give them food. Shame on me.

Alice fought like the devil when it was time to get into the carrier and Jack didn’t like the idea but he’s been back and forth to the vet so many times since the week before Christmas that I think he knew there was no point putting up a fight.

Once in the carrier, Alice cried, scratched, and stuck her little legs out between the bars of the door, reaching…reaching. I felt so bad. I knew she was going to be ok but can you imagine the stress and anxiety a cat must feel when they’re shoved in a ‘cage’ and put into a car for transport? They have no clue what’s going on or what’s going to happen. I often wonder if my surviving kitties remember how Fuzzy, Korn, and Smokie one by one went for a ride and never returned. The others had a view of the burial in the garden from the catio but did they understand? Are they afraid every time they go for a ride? I shudder at the thoughts that must go through their minds. (Of course, I shudder at my own thoughts half the time.)

Alice cried all the way to the vet, which was about 30 miles away. Jack never made a sound. He’s used to this. For the entire drive, I hoped neither one of them would throw up or relieve themselves in the carriers. I brought extra bedding just in case. Thankfully, not feeding them before we left worked as I had hoped. Neither one threw up and unbelievably they didn’t have any other accidents either!

Dr. Missy, our very caring and gentle veterinarian, looked over both Alice and Jack. Jack still has some rattly sounds in his lungs, which is why he’s still on his steroids. Alice passed her ‘once over’ with flying colors. Dr. Missy even complimented her on her shiny and luxurious coat! I brush them all every day so I’m glad it’s showing.

They got their vaccinations and before Dr. Missy left, I asked for advice on how to get an elder cat with a tendency to rip people to shreds into a carrier. Poor Kitty needs her vaccinations, too but thanks to our previous vet, it’s next to impossible to get her into a carrier. Dr. Missy gave me some good suggestions. She said a little gabapentin might help to relieve some stress and anxiety. I happen to be on gabapentin and she told me I could give about 100mg in food an hour or so before getting her into the carrier. I don’t know if it will work, but I can sure give it a shot. The other tip was to set the carrier on its end, grab the cat by the scruff of the neck and back her into the carrier, butt first and quickly. That’s when Dad popped off a funny! He said, “That’ll be like sticking a wet noodle up a wild cat’s ass.” I thought I was going to wet myself!

On the way home, Alice never made a peep. She waited until we pulled up in front of the house and then she started to cry. I don’t know how she knew but she knew. I never saw Jack or Alice for about 3 hours after we got home. They came out to eat their dinner and then Jack went back into hiding. Alice is on my bed, sleeping so hard right now. She’s snoring and even had a nightmare. Poor baby!

I have two more cats needing vaccinations. Kitty and Honey. Honey weighs a whopping 20 lbs. now – she won’t be easy to carry! And Kitty? Well, we’ll see. Hopefully, I can get her in the carrier. You know…. wet noodle, wild cat.
