Just An Illusion

There’s so much negativity in the world today. Humans can be such rude creatures. Social media has created a world of snobs; people who think they’re better for one reason or another. I know they existed before Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc., but those platforms have exacerbated the problem.

I’m not impressed with anyone who boasts of the possessions they hold, followers who worship them, or the places they have traveled.

I’m not impressed by social status, job title, or money.

I’m not impressed by the education you’ve received or in what schools your kids are enrolled.

I’m not impressed by the Church you belong to or your religious beliefs.

I’m not impressed by your perfect skin, which has been covered with inches of makeup and/or fixed with photo filters.

I’m not impressed by your wrinkle-free face that has been lifted more times than the weights at the gym.

I’m not impressed by your hair, that you spend so much money, time and effort on to present your “perfect” self.

I’m not impressed with your high-dollar automobile, or your indoor pool in your big fancy house.

Nope. None of those things matter. Your looks will fade and you’ll die someday regardless of your “perfect” image. You can’t take your money or your house with you when you die. Your kids can go to the most prestigious schools and still end up homeless and addicted to drugs. You may not always be healthy, wealthy and if social standing and money are of utmost importance to you, then you are surely not wise.

I’m impressed with people who are real; people who walk tall and proud on their own path. I’m impressed with those who are “transparent” as they like to say these days. No hypocrisy. No greed. No self-absorption. No perfection. Just real. Real people, living real lives.

I’m impressed by your humility, empathy, kindness, integrity, and honesty.

I’m impressed with your attitude, your smile, your laugh, and your sense of humor.

I’m impressed with how your mind works; the ideas you have or dreams that drive you.

I’m impressed by your heart; your willingness to help others when they can offer you nothing in return.

I’m impressed with how you treat other people and animals. Kindness always matters. ALWAYS.

I’m not putting down people who have “things” that I do not. It’s fine to be proud of what you have or of what you have accomplished. It’s great that you can travel or that you’ve earned multiple degrees or that you have a Mazaratti.

Being better off financially than others doesn’t make you better nor do most people think of you that way. It’s not real. It’s just an illusion.

Monsters Are Real

On Monday, Billy didn’t have his homework
And when the teacher asked him why
He said, “Because a monster ripped it up,
After I told him a lie.”

“You know monsters don’t exist,
And if you don’t turn in your homework
No recess you will get.”

On Tuesday, Billy had a stomachache
And when the teacher asked him why
He said, “A monster took away my dinner,
even my cherry pie.”

“Billy, I’ve told you once before,
Monsters are not real.
You’ll have to wait til lunchtime
Before you get a meal.”

On Wednesday, Billy had a bandage,
Which covered his right eye.
When the teacher asked him how it happened,
This was his reply:

“A monster was running after me
When I ran into the door.”
“Billy please,” the teacher said,
“I don’t want to hear any more.”

On Thursday, Billy refused to sit down,
And when the teacher asked him why,
Billy said, “A monster whipped my bottom,
Because I started to cry.”

“Billy,” said the teacher,
“this is getting out of hand,
And if you continue with these stories,
In the corner you will stand.”

On Friday, Billy didn’t come to school,
And when the teacher found out why,
She said a little prayer to God
In hopes Billy would survive.

For a monster had beaten Billy
and threatened him with a knife.
Now Billy lay in a hospital bed,
Fighting for his life.

So *teachers please remember,
That monsters are for real.
Listen closely to kids stories,
A wounded heart you may heal.

Pushing Through, Again

The pain new medication I started a week ago seemed like it was helping with the arthritis in my legs but wasn’t doing much for my knees. I had every intention of giving it at least 2 weeks, but after a week I realized the pain in my knees was worse. I was using the wheelchair for the last 2 days because the pain was so severe.

I didn’t sleep well last night due to a burning sensation in my knees and I woke up feeling like I could just take a nice leap off a cliff…. I didn’t like the depressed mood I was in. I called my NP as soon as the office opened.

She told me I could stop taking the Celebrex and that she would call in my Diclofenac, the pain medication I had been taking for the last 6 years or so. I realized it must have been working better than I thought. I was feeling its absence, most definitely.

I had some Diclofenac left from before I started the Celebrex so I took one at my usual time. Within 4 hours, I was feeling a little less pain. Now, it’s that time of the day when my pain level is higher and I have a harder time doing things, so I should be in better shape tomorrow morning. We’ll see. I will need to go pick up my prescription soon.

I am seriously tired of being in pain 24/7 but I keep pushing through it because the alternative is worse. I can’t give up. I can’t quit.
