About Deb / Being Aunt Debbie

Single, disabled mother of 2 adult children and grandmother to 7 beautiful grandchildren! I love Medieval History, castles, all things Celtic. I love animals, rock music, Mexican food, writing, learning, and good movies. I love to crochet!

What’s Eating Aunt Debbie?

Do you remember when Republicans (mostly) were yelling “My Body, My Choice” regarding vaccinations against Covid-19? They were against vaccinations that could save their pathetic lives. Do you remember? Well, I do. It makes my blood boil.

It made my blood boil then, too. Make no mistake about that! But I am sitting here thinking about the issue of abortion. No one wants to get an abortion…and no one wants to kill babies, but there are circumstances where abortion is the choice a woman must make regarding her personal and individual situation. This is a decision between a woman, her partner (if she has one), and her doctor. The government doesn’t belong in that equation!

Why am I bringing up abortion when I began this post about Covid-19? Don’t you see the hypocrisy? If the argument is “My Body, My Choice” regarding vaccinations, then why doesn’t it apply to a woman’s right to choose for herself regarding abortion? It’s her body…it should be her choice.

I am so sick to death of this conservative bullshit. They are pushing things beyond reasonable. This ban on abortion is setting this country back decades. I’m not saying abortion should be legal with absolutely no constraints. I don’t like abortion being used as a form of birth control because women know how to prevent pregnancy if they don’t want to become pregnant. However, what happens when a woman is raped? Should she be forced by the government, forced by men to have a child she didn’t ask for in the first place? What about the 12-year-old girl who is raped by her stepfather? Should she be forced to have a child that she’s not physically or mentally mature enough to have? What about a woman who must abort a pregnancy in order to save her own life? Perhaps to save her other children from losing their mother? There are numerous situations in life we just don’t have control over, and sometimes we have to make tough choices.

Why any woman would support a political candidate who wants a total ban on abortion (and the abortion pill) is beyond me. This isn’t about killing babies. No one wants to kill babies. Don’t get me wrong here. I don’t believe in abortion, but that doesn’t mean I want to take another woman’s rights and flush them down the toilet. It’s none of my damn business!

Republicans are putting women’s rights through a fucking paper shredder! If they have their way, it won’t be long before women won’t be allowed to vote or have their own bank accounts, have a job/career, or do anything of their own accord.

Hmmm… It’s looking more and more like The Handmaid’s Tale coming to life every day.

PS I highly recommend The Handmaid’s Tale to every woman. It will boil your blood and make you cry. It’s hard to watch but well worth your time. Trust me.

Friday’s Funnies – My Faves This Week – April 21, 2023

Happy Friday, Friends!

I hope things are good in your neck of the woods. To tell you the truth, I’ve been a bit down this past week. I’m not getting enough sleep. On top of pain and mobility issues, I’m depressed. Go figure. I haven’t felt like writing this week. It just seems I have nothing to write about except depressing and negative thoughts so I just…don’t.

I needed a few laughs, and going through the last week’s saved memes proved to lift my mood a little. I hope these make you laugh a little… or a lot. This week’s collection is a big one!

Enjoy!

I hope you enjoyed this week’s collection! I can’t pick a fave…or even a few faves! There are just too many that made me laugh out loud! What do you think?

It looks like the temps here are on an upswing. No more cold, cold nights. Bummer. I sleep better when I can cuddle up in a nice warm blanket. I hope your weekend is a good one, friends. Sleep well, rock hard, and love thy neighbor…if they aren’t assholes, that is.

Until next time,

Jot down the first thing that comes to your mind.

I’m grateful for many things in my life. I’m grateful to have a roof over my head, indoor plumbing, electricity, clean clothing, clean water, heat, and a/c, food to eat, a car, and many other things. Having those things doesn’t mean I don’t struggle.

I struggle daily with depression, pain, and mobility issues. Some people don’t understand the difference between being depressed and being disabled which leads to depression. What I mean is, if you’re depressed you don’t want to do anything. But your body is still ABLE to do things. You can go to work, do the laundry, wash dishes, sweep the floor, run the vacuum, get groceries, etc. You may be depressed and not WANT to do those things but you are still physically able. In my case, my body is unable. I’m lucky if I can stand for 15 minutes at a time. My depression is from not being able to do the things that most people take for granted. Think about it the next time you shower, or step out for the mail. Think about walking to and from the bathroom, tossing a load of clothes in the washing machine, or fixing something to eat. I struggle to do those things. I can’t work, go shopping, or go to the movies. I can’t clean the house like it should be cleaned. I can’t cook, which is something that I always enjoyed. Because of my inability to do those things, I get depressed. I fight it daily because if I let it take over, who will take care of my dad? It’s obvious to me that I can’t depend on anyone for help so I do it all myself. Well, as much as I can do.

Friday’s Funnies – My Faves This Week – April 14

Happy Friday!

I think it’s Friday…isn’t it? This week has been hectic. I’ve been running Dad to his cardiologist appointments and neither one of us has been getting much sleep so the week has been a big blur. So, I hope it’s Friday.

I hope you enjoy this week’s funnies! Be sure to drop a comment to share which is your favorite!

Honestly, I think the Samuel L. Jackson meme and the “Dildo of Consequences” are my favorites! Although, I sure can identify with the poor cat waking up confused…been there, done that! And when I saw the Coronation Mug all I could think about was Craig Ferguson making fun of (then) Prince Charles. He was hilarious! Which ones do you like the best?

I’m glad this week is over, but I sure did enjoy the reprieve from the rain! (The roof only leaks when it rains, lol.) I hear rain is coming this weekend though, so NOT looking forward to that.

Have a great weekend, friends!

What’s the most fun way to exercise?

You’re kidding, right?

Back in the day, I would say hiking would be the most fun way to exercise. Not only is hiking a great form of exercise, but if you’re hiking in the right places you’d be experiencing nature’s beauty and glory! I loved hiking. I dreamed about it. I planned backpacking trips with my Dad. It makes me sad and angry that I can’t do that anymore.

These days, I’m lucky if I can walk from the living room to the bathroom with crutches.

Nowadays, a scooter (if I had one) would be my most fun way to exercise!
