Time for this week’s Friday’s Funnies. I always seem to fall behind on Friday’s and get these posted late in the day. I guess you can’t win ’em all! I hope you enjoy them!
~~~
This little girl’s got the sass!
Belly laughs and doggie wiggles….
And from the warped mind of Aunt Debbie when she’s bored and grand daughter’s toy is sitting on the cat tower!
I wouldn’t even have enough pills in that bottle for the entire week!
In honor of the 4th of July:
Wickedness is fun.
More like I am lumpy potatoes and life is a potato masher….
Roger Miller would get a kick out of this!
Oh, but yum. Tacos.
That is sneaky!
Carousels are a dangerous place to be when you’re drunk!
Some more sass…..
Is that how it started?
Intended for mature audiences:
And there ya have it… That last one had me laughing way too hard!! What the heck?! Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this week’s funnies. Have a great weekend, everyone!
I’m sharing an old post from December of 2013. I had experienced some major upset in my life and after a year of therapy, found myself in a better place. This post is a prime example of what happens when some people don’t get what they want from you. I had learned that I have to take care of me and set boundaries. That’s all I was trying to do.
Renaldo was an 8-inch pink hippo with a blue ribbon around his neck. He became a member of Amanda’s family when she rescued him from a dumpster on her way home from school one day. He was just lying on the top, dirty and smelly. After Amanda’s mom washed him, he looked brand-new and smelled so good!
Renaldo had been thrown away by his previous family because the children were grown. He waited in that dumpster for 2 hours before Amanda rescued him! That 2 hours seemed like forever to Renaldo. He had heard about another stuffed friend who had been in a dumpster for 6 days before he was rescued! Renaldo felt lucky.
“There you are, Renaldo!” said Amanda. “I’ve been looking for you.” She scooped him up and took him into the kitchen. “Would you like to have a cookie with me?”
“Renaldo, do you want a chocolate chip cookie or a peanut butter cookie?” asked Amanda.
Renaldo wanted chocolate chip because peanut butter stuck to the roof of his mouth. Amanda put Renaldo in her doll’s high chair, placed the chocolate chip cookie in front of him, and smiled. She knew what kind he wanted without a word. As soon as Renaldo touched the seat of the high chair, his head turned toward Amanda and he smiled at her.
Renaldo wondered why this chair made him come alive. Could it be magic? Was it because Amanda’s great-grandfather made this chair with his own bare hands? Was it because it had been used by so many loving children before? Could it be that Amanda made him come alive just because she truly believed he was really alive?
Renaldo could feel the love in the wood seat beneath him. He was so happy!
Amanda served Renaldo a small glass of milk with his cookie. “Can I have another cookie, Mandy?” Renaldo asked. He was the only person in the world who called her Mandy. It was their little secret.
“Sure, Renaldo! Anything for my best friend in the whole world!” exclaimed Amanda with a big smile on her face.
Renaldo was so happy to be here, at this moment, with his best friend. He never wanted Amanda to grow up!
I’ve been watching The Handmaid’s Tale on Hulu, season two now. This show is very difficult to watch but riveting. I find myself cringing in disbelief many times throughout. If you haven’t read the book (I haven’t but I plan on it), or seen this very well-acted series, then I highly recommend it.
The story is set in a totalitarian society created by Gilead, where women are treated as property and have no rights. The wives of Gilead men have become sterile, so fertile women have been sought out, kidnapped and basically forced into sexual servitude in order to repopulate the world. This new world they have created is reminiscent of the Puritanical era.
A young woman, whose own child was taken from her and placed in the care of another family, is taken to be a handmaid. Her name is Offred, meaning ‘of Fred’ derived from her master’s name (Fred), known as her Commander. Her real name is June, but handmaids are not allowed to use their real names. Women are not allowed to read, write, drive, or have jobs, or money….among other things. The handmaids are raped in “ceremonies” in order to produce children, their sole purpose.
There are different classes of women. They are segregated by color of clothing, signifying social class. The Wives wear blue, Aunts (the women who train the handmaids) wear brown, Marthas (cooks and housekeepers) wear green, Handmaids wear red. Econowives, who are women married to lower class men and perform all domestic duties, wear various colors, and young unmarried girls wear (you guessed it) white.
This terrifying, near-future dystopian story makes you think about how our society could slowly change direction…. the wrong direction. Could women someday lose control of their own bodies? Today’s women are already on the verge of losing their right to birth control and abortion. I shudder at the thought of what comes next….
It’s difficult to watch many of the scenes, invoking anger, empathy, sympathy, and sorrow. Chock full of fear, violence, heartbreak, murder, politics, and religion — it’s a very haunting and chilling series, with great actors! Check out the trailer for season one below.
