Eureka Cigarettes

OMG.

I was in town this morning just for a few things. There was a woman who worked there who was fanning things on the shelves with a clipboard. I wanted to ask her what the fuck she was doing because it made no sense to me, but I kept my mouth shut.

As she approached me, I was overcome by the sickening gawd-awful stench of cigarettes! I wondered, didn’t she give a shit how she smelled? Did she even know she had the stinks? Holy crap. I mean, I used to smoke. Just a couple a day; a very light smoker. I used to work with smokers who smoked a lot more than I did. They never smelled that bad. Trust me, my nose (even when I was a smoker) could pick up on that stink yards away. I don’t think I’ve EVER run across anyone who smelled this bad! Holy crap, this woman smelled as though she smoked 3 packs or more a day!

Without even thinking, I raised my hand to my nose and covered it. She looked at me. I think she knew…or at least had a little clue that she must stink. I hope so! I wanted to tell her…

NO! I wanted to YELL at her:

“Come on, lady! You-Reek-of-Cigarettes!!!”

We see many American Bald Eagles here, as well. They are the most majestic creatures.

Getting Lost & A Good Deed

Yesterday, I was supposed to have lunch with a friend but she had to cancel because of a pain issue. My cell phone doesn’t get a good signal in most areas of my house, so by the time I received her text messages, I was already dressed and ready to go. That’s ok though; no harm done. Dad felt sorry for me being all dressed up and nowhere to go so he insisted we should go out anyway. So, we did.

We decided on a town that we have been to hundreds of times via the same route, however, it had been a few months since we were there last. We were talking Trump TV, as we call it, catching each other up on the latest bullshit thrown at us from the tv news or the internet. It was a heated conversation; we totally agreed with each other but the ‘heat’ came from how freakin’ fed up we are with the clown that is pretending to be important. We were so wrapped up in conversation that I missed a very important turn on our journey. Of course, we had no clue.

We drove about 5 miles past the turn until we came to the junction of 14 and 181. The problem is, we were both dumbfounded. Neither one of us recognized where we were or which way we were supposed to go. Dad insisted I go left. I knew something wasn’t right but I made the left.

got lost

I couldn’t figure out what the heck happened. It was almost as if they changed the roads! We had been on the right road and then all of a sudden things were off. It just didn’t make sense. I drove a couple of miles down 14, as Dad told me to do. I knew that wasn’t right. I knew because nothing, absolutely nothing, looked familiar! I turned around. I told Dad, “something isn’t right.” I went back to the junction and made a right placing us back on 181. Still no familiarity. Dad spied a sign that read CC. This was the road that we should have turned on, and I turned right which was the only direction the road went. I was relieved for about 2 seconds and then I realized things still didn’t look right. Nothing was familiar. We passed homes, barns, cow pastures, cemeteries and all were things that we had never seen before! What the hell is going on? We were both confused and couldn’t figure out where the hell we were.

Finally, I pulled into a deserted little cemetery and pulled up Google maps. We went so far past our turn that when we saw CC we assumed it was the right road. It was not. So, we went back to 181 and I made a right, as Google showed me. Finally, we saw something familiar! The turn we originally should have taken; CC! That’s when we realized that we were so distracted we didn’t even realize we passed our turn.

It was a relief to have my bearings back but I still felt uncomfortable and nervous. I imagined how confused and terrified an Alzheimer’s patient must feel when they don’t know where they are; when they’re lost in their own mind, scared with no map to guide them. It was a horrible feeling to wash away. Strange how Dad and I both lost our minds at the same time!

When we finally made it to our destination, we stopped at The Dollar Tree. We picked up a few things and before we finished Dad came and showed me a twenty-dollar bill he found on the floor! He was worried that a little kid might have lost it but that’s a large amount for a little kid to have lost. He hung onto the bill and walked around the store. He was watching folks and how they were acting. He spied a woman around my age walking up and down the aisles looking down at the floor. He watched her for a few minutes. She saw Dad behind her and asked, “You haven’t seen a twenty-dollar bill anywhere, have you?” To that Dad replied, “As a matter of fact, I have!” He pulled the twenty out of his pocket and handed it back to the woman. She was so relieved and so thankful! She told him that she was given the responsibility of purchasing a few things for her Church and she was just horrified to have lost the money her pastor gave her.

We had Chinese food afterward. Lukewarm Chinese food, I might add. I don’t know why they can’t keep their food hot!

We got lost, Dad did a good deed, and our lunch was disappointing but my pain level was down a little. Thanks in part to CBD capsules. I think. Only time will tell for certain.

Friday’s Funnies – My Faves This Week

This week I just didn’t have time to put together a theme-related Friday’s Funnies post, so we’ll just have to make do with the original concept. I’m up for suggestions of themes for future posts so lay them on me!

After the mass shootings in El Paso, Dayton, Gilroy, and so many more just THIS YEAR, I think we all need something to laugh about. I know I do, and I know people close to the aforementioned shootings that definitely need a laugh. Let’s share laughter, my friends. Share Friday’s Funnies with someone who needs a good laugh. Share something funny you found on Facebook. Just share…and laugh…and love one another.

WARNING! Some may not be suitable for children and some may be offensive to stupid people everywhere!

Now for the laughter. I hope. Enjoy!

A Blast From The Past

Ah, Barnabas Collins. The 175-year-old vampire who was inadvertently set free in 1967 and spent 4 years of the gothic daytime series Dark Shadows, in search of love and acceptance, and finding murder and mayhem. He was an evil blood-sucker, a member of the undead, but yet you could feel empathy for him.

Dark Shadows began in 1962, and when the ratings began to fall and the writers knew that the show was going to be canceled, they decided to do something drastic.  They added new characters and a new story-line. Why not have a little fun, ‘eh?

Jonathan Frid, a Canadian actor, portrayed the tortured and lovelorn vampire Barnabas Collins from 1967 to the time the show ended in 1971. Amid all the expectations of a daytime drama (love, sex, murder, theft, kidnapping, etc.) were the strange and macabre stories of ghosts, vampires, werewolves and witches, and even a Frankenstein-like creation! It was quite entertaining, although corny as hell by today’s standards!

I used to race home after school just so I could watch Dark Shadows! My mom started watching before the addition of the undead and scary characters and I was right there with her with about as much understanding as a 5 – 8-year-old could have possibly had! I loved the spookiness and the anticipation of Dark Shadows. I knew that vampires were make-believe and I wasn’t afraid when I watched as many kids might have been. Dark Shadows was one of my favorite shows right alongside The Monkees, Gilligan’s Island, The Munsters, Lost In Space, and The Partridge Family, like most kids my age.

I was absolutely devastated when my mother started coming ‘undone’ and decided that I couldn’t watch Dark Shadows anymore. She said I was having nightmares. I never had nightmares. The only time I ever had a nightmare in my life was when I was sick with a very high fever (around age 8) and dreamt there was an evil fat penguin under the sheets by my feet. I remembered that, wouldn’t I also remember if I was having nightmares about witches and vampires, etc.? My heart was just broken.

I have just recently begun to watch Dark Shadows again, starting with episode 210, when Barnabas first appears. So corny, so funny… That was back when television was entertainment and not a cesspool of reality shows, Trump tv, and other mindless crap. Don’t get me wrong. I still watch tv. I have some favorite shows, but choosing something to watch these days with over 200 channels is getting more and more cumbersome.

Ah, the good ol’ days!
