Mrs. Potato Head Got a New Do

I woke up looking like Mrs. Potato Head this morning. It was 1am and I was ready for coffee. Yesterday, my best friend and I went to the beauty salon and had a bite to eat afterward. By the time we got home it was late and I was beat. I hit the sack at 10pm and well, you what happens when you go to bed too early. I was awake at 1am!

I had been sporting a mop since early March 2020. As it grew out I put it in a ponytail. A ponytail and clips. Damn. I’m nearly 60 years old and I think I’m a bit too old for a ponytail and clips. I was so excited to get my hair cut. I wore my hair long for most of my life, but as I got older (and began to have mobility issues) I decided I needed something shorter and easier so for the last few years I’ve worn it short. A few months into the pandemic I was disgusted with my hair and have been anticipating going to the beauty salon for so long!! After being fully vaccinated, I made my appointment! I took this pic last night before I crashed for the night. I look a bit goofy and there’s a bit of clutter in the background so please be kind. Hahaha.

I’ve not had much motivation to write these days. I think I’ll be taking Jake Tapper’s advice when asked how he had time to write a novel. He said, “Set aside 15 minutes every day to write.” I may be paraphrasing because I don’t recall his exact words but that’s basically what he said. 15 minutes a day. I think I can do that. Hmm… Only time will tell.

Stay tuned for Friday’s Funnies. It’s been weeks since I did a Funnies post. Now that life is going back to somewhat normal, things are funny again… Like when I looked in the mirror this morning and saw Mrs. Potato Head looking back at me. Snort!

Aunt Debbie

What’s Eating Aunt Debbie?

There’s a lot on my mind these days. Most of which you probably don’t want to hear about. Aside from the current political situation, which has me wanting to scream, there are a few other things on my mind.

First, I’ve just not had the motivation to write. I don’t know why. I have a lot of ideas, including notes I have jotted down for future reference. I can’t even bring myself to sit down on a daily basis and read the blogs I follow. I’m just lost…basically going through the motions. I just don’t have any motivation to do anything.

I had my 2nd Covid vaccine on Tuesday so in 2 weeks I am getting my hair cut! I’m so sick of this mop that’s been growing for over a year! I was worried that I’d be sick, like some people do after their 2nd shot. I was a little more achier than normal and my arm hurts like a mother, but it wasn’t too bad. Of course, I started taking Tylenol every 8 hours the day before my appointment, and made sure to stay hydrated. I think that helped.

Recently, I was diagnosed with lymphedema and was referred for lymphedema therapy. Of course, my insurance won’t cover it so I had to apply for financial aid. I finally got the financial aid and made the appointment. Turns out I really don’t have lymphedema – yet. If left untreated this will turn into lymphedema. I got a massage that will help get my lymphatic system moving as it should, and I was taught how to do this myself as well. The therapist wrapped my legs, showing me how to do it, and I was on my way. I will see her again next week. I’m hoping for another massage! Snort!

I find myself thinking more and more about my past self. You know, the person I used to be. I used to be a cross-country backpacker, a great cook, a soap and bath & body maker, and a jewelry maker. I can’t do any of those things anymore. I can’t stand, sit, or walk for long periods of time so all of these things are very difficult, if not impossible for me to do. I’d give anything to just be able to take a freakin’ walk!

But I am grateful for everything I have. I have a roof over my head, a wonderful family, great friends, fur babies who give me headbutts and cuddles, and I can still walk, albeit with crutches and very slowly. I have my Dad who is my comic relief and I swear, the best thing is when Dad and I think of the same funny thing at the same time, and we don’t have to say a word because we know exactly what the other is thinking!

I’m going to focus on the good in my life. I mean, I try to do that anyway but I’ve been a bit down this past few weeks and I need to pull myself out of this slump! I need to find something that motivates me and snap out of it! There used to be plenty of things in my life that motivated me but it seems like those things are lost or just hiding from me.

What’s Eating Aunt Debbie?

Oh, so many things are eating at me these days. It seems the state of this country is in the toilet. Everything is such a mess! It’s exhausting and I know I’m not alone in feeling the way I do. Here’s a quick run-down of What’s Eating Aunt Debbie:

  1. You’d think the damn police would be on their best behavior these days and following procedure, to-the-letter, to protect themselves and their department from bad publicity and lawsuits. But no. More police shootings occur. More wrongful deaths happen. Unnecessary violent treatment on routine traffic stops. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! You don’t need to draw your gun on a routine traffic stop. You don’t need to shoot an unarmed person! There is no need for excessive force when you’ve already got the suspect on the ground and handcuffed! You do NOT need to shoot a man in the back!
  2. Joel Greenberg, Seminole County, FL tax collector faces a total of 33 federal charges…including sex trafficking, fraud, and bribery. What the hell is wrong with people these days? Give them an inch, they take a mile. LOCK HIM UP! What scumbag will have that position next?
  3. Matt Gaetz. Where to start? The investigation into Greenberg led the feds to Matt Gaetz, who faces charges of sex trafficking and sex with a minor. Gaetz reportedly asked then-President Trump for a blanket pardon. Who the hell does that? Requesting a blanket pardon tells me all I need to know about someone. Another scumbag in politics. LOCK HIM UP!
  4. Many people, when asked why they have a problem with the LGBTQ Community, they will say, “that way of life is against my religion.” That’s ridiculous. Their lifestyle doesn’t have a damn thing to do with you. If GOD thinks it’s a problem then let GOD take care of it! Here’s a thought: If God created everyone, then he also created every single gay, lesbian, trans etc., person in the world. Maybe God created them the way they are. Maybe it’s all a part of God’s plan. Maybe God is trying to teach us all something! Pay attention!

Well, that sums up the bullshit that’s clouding my brain this this time around. I’m sure more will come next week! What’s eating you these days?

If you don’t like what I have to say that’s your prerogative. This is my blog and I’ll express my opinion as I please. Just remember, I know how to delete comments and ban people from my blog/page

Still Kickin’

Happy Monday!

What’s that? Yes, I’m still kickin’…and sometimes screaming. I’m trying to get back on track but this past couple of months have sucked and quite frankly, my desire to do anything has diminished.

We finally got propane, which is our primary source of heat. It took an entire month to get that no-good, mofo company out here to fill our tank! We went through that zero degree weather with 2 little space heaters in the living room, which didn’t even begin to keep us warm. I ended up buying a couple of electric shawls that were a Godsend, holy crap. They really helped – but now it’s warming up and I have packed them away for next winter.

We thought we were in the home stretch when our water pipes froze. We always take precautions and this time was no different but it was so much colder than it normally is that what we did wasn’t good enough. When it started to warm up and the pipes started to thaw, we realized we had busted pipes and we had to shut the water completely off. My son came and replaced pipes and repaired leaks and we thought we had it made but then for some reason we only had hot water in the bathtub and cold water in the toilet but no water anywhere else! My son checked and double-checked but could find nothing wrong! Nearly 2 weeks later, we finally found a plumber and $500+ later, we had water everywhere we were supposed to have water! The faucets were clogged; the kitchen faucet even had to be replaced. Boy, was it nice to be able to take a shower and wash dishes like “normal folk”.

I’ve been having health issues again. You may recall I was in the ER in December with swollen legs and numbness. I’ve been taking meds for that but last week I was in the doctor’s office with “leakage” in my legs. Technically, it’s lymphedema and I need a specific treatment which my insurance won’t pay for. That doesn’t surprise me at all, as it’s not the first time I’ve not been able to have the treatment/procedure/medication that I need to improve and protect my health. Anyway, the medical center has sent me forms to apply to a local charity that sometimes pays for things that folks can’t afford. I won’t get my hopes up because if I do, the rug will get pulled out from under me as it always does.

On the bright side, my daughter has given birth to a bouncing baby girl! My baby girl now has her own baby girl and that makes me so happy! On that note, I will leave you with a photo of Miss Angelina Rose!

What’s Eating Aunt Debbie?

Hello. It’s me again.

I have to say that yesterday I was pretty pissed off. It all started when the mail came.

Back in March I changed my pharmacy of choice from Walmart to Family Pharmacy. Walmart doesn’t have a drive up window and they didn’t ship to home like they used to. During this pandemic, I would need to be able to drive up to a window to pick up my scripts or have them shipped. After I switched over, Walmart called me and said they now ship to home. “Too late,” I told the associate. “I’ve already got the transfer worked out.” Fast forward to yesterday, when I received a letter from Family Pharmacy, informing me that they were closing their doors and have sent my pharmacy records to Walgreens. First of all, I knew they were closing their doors but I didn’t know exactly when. I figured they would let their customers know ahead of time so people could transfer their prescriptions to a pharmacy to their choice. Well, I guess that was too much to ask.

“Thanks a lot, assholes. Walgreens is not convenient for me,” is what I wanted to tell them, along with, “How dare you send my information to another pharmacy without my permission?!” I was thinking this had to be a HIPAA violation, but I was informed that it is not by a friend who works in a pharmacy. Ok, well it still pisses me off that they couldn’t let their customers know so people could take care of their own business. Who knows how long it will take for Walgreens to get things worked out because as of now they have no record of my scripts. UGH.

Then…

Last night, I was having trouble with my wireless printer. It was printing, and was connected to my WiFi but it wouldn’t connect to HP’s server. It’s supposed to keep track of my ink usage and send new ink cartridges when I’m running low. I pay $3.12 a month for this service and I can print up to 50 pages a month with no extra charges. Pretty good deal! I was trying to fix it myself, which I had done before, but was having trouble. I thought tech support would be quicker. I spent 45 minutes on chat with a tech guy who talked me through everything I had already tried. Step by step. Do this, then try that…you know the routine. After that 45 minutes, my printer printed out a diagnosis, which showed that there were 2 IP addresses in conflict. Ok, now we’re getting somewhere, I thought. Nope. I thought wrong. The tech guy said, “You’ll have to contact HP at xxx-xxx-xxxx because this is beyond my scope.” Seriously? I remembered doing this before, when I first got the printer. My brother in law helped me figure it out back then because it was my first wireless printer and I didn’t know anything about it. It was just a matter of changing the configuration by switching from manual to automatic. It was right there on the printer screen! How is that beyond his scope? It wasn’t beyond my scope and I fixed it myself. UGH.

Anyway, I wasted 45 minutes with this tech guy for absolutely no reason! I should have known though, because since 1995, I’ve not had much luck with any computer or printer tech service. I can count on one hand how many times they’ve actually been able to solve my problem. Most of the time, I have fixed it myself and/or had the assistance of my brilliant brother in law. Shhhh…. Don’t tell him I said that. He’s too big for his britches already.
