Tim Conway’s Elephant Story

I don’t know about you, but I miss the old days when television was fun and entertaining. Nowadays, it’s just reality crap, sitcoms that make people look dumber than they can possibly be, and remakes. Of course, there are many doctor shows and murder mystery shows, and blah blah blah, same ol’ same ol’ boring BS.

I miss the TRUE art of comedy, which was prominently featured on shows like The Carol Burnett Show. TRUE comedy, TRUE improv and TRULY funny! Here’s just one clip of one of the most popular skits seen on TCBS. I dare you not to laugh! Tim Conway is, and always will be, one of my favorite comedians. Enjoy!

How my blog got started:

I was entering a new phase of my life. I was about to become a grandmother. Starting a blog seemed like the perfect way to share my life and my loves, although it turned out to be more of a therapeutic project. It remains very therapeutic for me. I have just recently made my blog more public (through Facebook @ https://www.facebook.com/BeingAuntDebbie/) and have tried to write more than I use to. There were times that other things got in the way of my creativity and if you have read my past posts you may know exactly what I’m talking about. This blog is about making my way through this life, down whatever road it takes me.

My advice to new bloggers:

  1. Write what you know and about your passions. Just write!
  2. Don’t let anyone belittle you for your writing, opinions, passions or anything else. Just be you and write what you like!

It was difficult for me to pick 10 bloggers — there are so many great blogs out there! Most of the blogs I follow are on other blog formats, like Blogger, but I figured I should nominate those who are on wordpress like I am. I don’t always get to read every blog every day and that makes me sad! Here goes!

I nominate:

A Few Things That Ticked Me Off This Week

This week has been a real PIA. I had to go out every stinkin’ day except for Wednesday. It gets tiresome and when you have chronic pain and mobility issues it can be exhausting. Any kind of aggravation is exhausting. I try not to let things bother me but good grief….I’m only human.

To the lady in the waiting room who didn’t like that I earmarked the page in my book to keep my place for next time: None of your business! It’s MY book! Doesn’t belong to the library. Doesn’t belong to you. Doesn’t belong to anyone but ME. I bought the book used with my own money. STFU and leave me alone.

People in waiting rooms who think you’re interested in their life story. Seriously, I care that you are healthy and happy but I have my own problems to contemplate while waiting to see my doctor. Please just be quiet.

People who answer their cell phone in public and then speak so loud that everyone in the restaurant can hear about brother John’s sermon or Aunt Nancy’s colonoscopy. Just be quiet man!

Signal lights on vehicles that don’t work. If I have to abide by the law and keep my vehicle in proper working order, then so do you! Fix your damn signal lights!

Vehicles that only have one license plate, in front. Guess what? This state (Missouri) is a 2 plate state. Get that second plate on your truck or car. If I have to abide by the law then by golly, you should too!

That confounded Confederate flag. Give me a break. It doesn’t matter which view you take on this; the Confederate flag is divisive. Period. Has no place in today’s society. No more than the Nazi flag does. Just get rid of it and shush.

These little fruit flies or gnats….whatever they are….flying around my face continually. They try to land in my food. They try to get in my eyes. They try to get up my nose. They are really bad this year and it’s driving me nuts. I will be so glad when Winter gets here so the bugs go away, if for no other reason. Spiders too. The best thing about Winter is that the spiders hide away in a crack or crevice and out of sight.

It’s been a pretty aggravating week. I’m hoping the new week brings a bit more smiles and relaxation. I could use some laughs. Instead, I get inundated with other people’s stupidity.

I know there are still good people left in this world. That was evident when we were offered help with our flat tire on Friday. We didn’t ask for help. It was offered and it was just plain nice. I’m hoping my next post can be more positive! Something along the lines of….The Things That Made Me Laugh Today!

10 Things On My Mind Today, Sunday

Just a few things on my mind tonight. It’s been a rough week.

1. My state of mind. I hope this improves over the next week because I can’t stand it when I’m depressed and feeling sorry for myself. I have felt so damn alone this past week. It really bites when you have chronic pain and mobility issues and you feel like a burden to everyone. I don’t like asking for help but sometimes when I do, I feel like I have just demanded someone’s first born child or stolen their soul for all of eternity.

2. My dad’s leg. He has cellulitis. I had been after him for weeks, if not months, to go to the doctor and have the rash on his leg looked at. His reply? “I have a doctor’s appointment in December!” When I took him to his Lifeline screening on Thursday, he was informed that the skin on his leg felt hot to the touch and that he should go to the doctor because it could be infected. Then, and ONLY then, did he allow me to take him to urgent care and have it checked out. Good grief. Stubborn man.

3. Hurricane Harvey. Oh, the damage you have done. Thanks to all of the rescue workers, paid and volunteer, who have helped save so many lives. Praying for Texas tonight.

4. My neighbor. She has spent the last couple of years caring for her mother who was suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease. She lost her mom this week. She was a nice lady and had an awesome sense of humor. Alzheimer’s is a terrible disease. It rips families into pieces…their hearts, that is. Prayers to the family.

5. The stray cat that I have been caring for, for the last month and a half. She needs much more care than I can give her due to my pain and mobility issues. She is long haired and I am still fighting the matted fur she arrived with. I am trying to find her a good loving home. She’s sweet, well-mannered, and has been spayed and received distemper shot. I hope I can find someone who will love her with their whole heart.

6. Still working on my weight loss but it’s not easy trying to get back on track. I’ll never get my knee surgery if I don’t snap out of this slump!

7. Chocolate. Always craving chocolate. Gimme some.

8. I hope I get some sleep tonight. Sick and tired of tossing and turning….if you can call it that. I can barely move; repositioning is terribly painful.

9. What’s for lunch tomorrow? Dinner? Planning my meals for the week. Ugh.

10. What can I watch on Netflix? Need stuff to watch because I can’t go to bed early…because I can’t sleep. Ugh.

Sick and Twisted

I cannot wrap my brain around a horrific crime committed just recently in my county. Many who follow this blog have no idea what I’m talking about. I will spare you the gory details. There is a link at the end of this post IF you want to know about the story.

This has been weighing on my heart and while I hate even thinking about it, I need to write to clear it out of my brain for awhile at least. I sit here and wonder what is going through the mind of the person/people involved. I wonder:

How does it feel to know that YOU are responsible for your own child’s gruesome death? Do you have any feelings at all? Are you so sick and twisted that your own life and desires outweigh the importance of a 16-year-old girl’s life? I hope you have many, many years to contemplate what you have done. The death penalty would be too damn easy and kind considering what YOU DID to her. You deserve to rot in prison for the rest of your miserable life.

How does it feel to know that everyone in the county wishes they could hang you by the neck in the town square? Or beat you to a pulp? Or tie you to the back of a truck and drag you through town? Have your closest friends and family abandoned you in your time of need? Oh well. You disappointed them. You hurt them. You may have even destroyed them with your actions.

You and others have failed this child so miserably. I can only pray for justice for this young girl, whose life was cut short in such a violent manner. May she rest in peace.
