This month is Autism Awareness Month. It’s no secret that autism exists and there are multitudes of “theories” of why it exists. That’s not what this piece is about. This was not written by me. My “other daughter” wrote this last year for my blog. She is an amazing step-mom to a child with autism and has much to say. Please read and share.

Good Reasons To Unfriend Someone On Facebook
Today, a good friend of mine posted a selfie to show off her new hair-do. She has only twice posted a photo of herself and she’s been on Facebook for years. A “friend” of hers commented in part, “I am totally against close up selfies, and I always unfriend,” and then she promptly unfriended her. That really stuck in my crawl! I mean, who the f*ck unfriends someone for something in such a ridiculous and childish manner? There are very good reasons to unfriend a person, but THAT was not one of them!
I have unfriended a few people in the 10+ years I’ve been on Facebook but mostly I just “unfollow.” It seems the better alternative to offending someone or hurting their feelings, especially when the reasons are that you’ve just been annoyed one too many times. Unfollowing allows you to still be friends on Facebook, but their posts stop showing up on your feed.
There are great (and reasonable) reasons to unfriend people on Facebook. Below are some of those reasons.
- Racism – Posting anything of this nature should be an automatic unfriending in my opinion.
- Promoting violence of any kind – This is not cool!
- Religious and/or political fanaticism – Everyone has the right to his or her own opinions and ideas but that doesn’t mean that everyone wants to hear about it and they shouldn’t have to unless asked.
- Inappropriate language and/or content, nudity – Come on. Have some class! I mean, I have the vocabulary of a sailor, to be honest, but I try to have a little respect for others.
- Promoting hate/hate crimes – Same as #2. Not cool.
- Stalker-ish behavior – If someone seems to be visiting your page and commenting on everything you post, if they send you messages all the time, or if they just give you a creepy feeling, unfriend and BLOCK.
- Stirring up trouble for other people – No one needs added drama in their lives. We all have enough of that sh*t without help. Am I right?
- Airing personal problems – Personal issues should be settled privately, not for all of Facebook to see.
- Spreading lies, half-truths, and rumors – Unfriend quickly. No one needs a friend like this.
- Constant negativity – Things can’t always be that bad and if they are, why is that person on Facebook instead of getting his/her sh*t together?
- Constant soliciting – Who wants to be bombarded with private messages or posts on their feed of things someone is trying to sell?
- Disrespectful comments, back-stabbing, and lack of honesty, integrity, kindness – There’s enough of this in the world. We don’t need to see it or read it on Facebook.
- Perpetuating fake news – When someone just shares meme after meme without any common sense thinking or research, cut ’em loose. I mean, we all can make a mistake and share something that’s not true, but the fake “facts” floating around the internet are absurd.
- Posting things on your timeline that are totally irrelevant – If someone constantly posts links to horse riding school on my timeline when I’m not even remotely interested in horses, that’s unfriending material right there.
- Bragging about their perfect life and how happy they are – No one’s life is perfect, and no one likes a bragger.
- Posting spoilers on tv shows or movies on a regular basis that you haven’t seen yet – Either unfriend or unfollow. It’s just not nice for them to try and ruin things for others.
- Constantly whining about problems and never doing anything to resolve those problems – Come on, if someone has a problem and they need help, asking for help is great. But constantly whining and not doing anything to resolve the issues is grounds for unfriending. Enough is enough.
- Anti-government, anti-establishment, anti-everything posts – Negativity, in general, is a real buzzkill.
- Making judgemental comments about your life – No one knows your journey so unfriend without feeling guilty.
- Super-opinionated and/or insulting comments on your posts – No one needs this kind of stress. Unfriend.
- Hunting/killing and dead animal photos – Some people enjoy hunting, the thrill of the kill….others do not. This type of thing really hurts my heart.
- Continual conspiracy theory posts – I can’t believe how many seemingly intelligent people believe so many of these theories. I’m not saying they’re all untrue theories but if something is covered up, doesn’t that mean that many people have to keep their mouths shut?? We all know people can’t keep their traps shut. Lol.
- Grammar Nazis – Ok, so I’m not exactly a Grammar Nazi because I make errors sometimes….but I do try to spell correctly and use punctuation. I also try to use complete sentences. BUT I don’t insult people on their posts for others to read. Not classy at all.
- Links that make you sad – Maybe it’s a story of the abuse of an animal or a child, maybe it’s something else that really hurts your heart. I pass them by quickly or hide from my timeline. Sometimes I unfriend.
- Terrible friend/relative – If someone did you or a family member terribly wrong, then by all means, unfriend.
So, that’s my list of reasons to unfriend someone on Facebook. I’m sure there are others that escaped my mind, and there are always exceptions to the ones I listed. You may or may not agree, and that’s perfectly fine. You didn’t have to read this and if you think about it, my opinion isn’t hurting anyone now is it?
Do you have any other reasons one might unfriend someone on Facebook?
The People of Walmart
No, I’m not going to belittle anyone who shops at Walmart. Why? Because I shop at Walmart. I have no choice. There’s not much to choose from where I live. It really chaps my hide when people put down Walmart and the folks who shop there. #1: Walmart is no better or worse than Target, Kohl’s or any other department store. They all have their positive aspects and negative aspects alike. #2: People are going to shop where it’s convenient for them. If they like a store, they will shop there. End of story.
Do I see people dressed funny when I go to Walmart? Sometimes. Do I see people with funny hairstyles at Walmart? Yep. Do I see ill-behaved children at Walmart? Definitely. Do I see socially awkward and ridiculous people at Walmart? Absolutely. Do I smell funny smells at Walmart? OMG yes.
It’s the same thing anywhere I go. That’s life. Truth be told, weird folks are everywhere.
But this post is about something more. It’s not about strange hairstyles, the clothing, the smells, the noise, weird behavior or anything else that you might find unfavorable. It’s about the genuine warmth of people. It’s about real people. It’s about people who are out there busting their butts working at Walmart (or Target, or any other store) who are really good people. It’s about the customers who are really nice and polite to other people. It’s time we stop focusing on the negative and look at the good right in front of our faces every time we go out.
This is a shout out to:
- the people who smile as they pass even though they are having the worst day ever but can still be nice to others.
- the woman who holds the restroom door open for you as she leaves.
- the young man who asks you if you need help reaching something.
- the employee who asks if you need help finding something.
- the employee in electronics who answers every stupid question you throw at him.
- the checker who works as quickly as she can and actually bags your groceries properly; the eggs are bagged separately and the bananas aren’t bagged with the canned goods.
- the old man in the scooter who acknowledges he’s a reckless driver with a huge toothless grin on his face.
- the woman who realizes she’s blocking the entire aisle and apologizes as she moves over.
- the mothers who keep their children from running amuck and disturbing others.
- the cart collector who helps you get your groceries in the trunk and then takes your cart back to the store.
- the stock clerk who picks up the 40 lb. box of kitty litter (without being asked) and puts it in your cart for you.
- the person who lets you go in front of him/her in the check out line.
- the employee who goes to look if there’s new stock of something that seems to be unavailable on the shelves.
- all the folks who say please, thank you, and excuse me.

Thank you for being the light in someone’s day. Thank you for your hard work. Thanks for your kindness, generosity, and for being the good in this world. We need more people like you!
A Piece of My Mind
Haha. No, I’m not going to tell anyone off. I just have a few things on my mind today.
- My face has broken out. WTF? I’m 56 (almost) and I break out like a teenager? Kill me now.
- I wish the $6.00 we spend each week on scratch offs and lottery would actually pay off!! Good grief. We could really use the money. The house is falling apart, literally. If we don’t get out of here soon, it just may fall in or down around us.

No, this isn’t my house! Not yet anyway!
- I wish I could find something that would help me sleep at night. It doesn’t seem to matter what time I go to bed, how tired I am, if I had a nap or not. I don’t fall asleep until 3 or 3:30am.
- The day after I go grocery shopping, the store has a SALE on the items on my list. Ugh. Never fails.
- Why, oh why does Dad always have a sneeze attack in the middle of one of my favorite shows?
- Not looking forward to the bugs and spiders that will accompany Spring. I feel them crawling on me already.

- Know-it-alls. Ugh.
- I rarely see my son anymore. He spends more time with his girlfriend’s family. Shame on him.
- I miss my grandkids. Hoping for nice WARM weather soon so my pain level is low enough to enjoy having the granddaughter over! She’s the only one I have a relationship with, which is sad.

- Why, oh why must Kitty wait until late afternoon to puke up a hairball on my bed?? Why can’t she do this early in the day before I’m totally exhausted?

- I have lists all over my desk; grocery lists, to-do lists, online shopping lists, birthday lists, idea lists…. Can I find the list I want? Nope.
- Today is the first day of Spring, but it’s cold and windy and I’m sick of it. Lol.

Oh, well. I guess I’ll survive. I always do!
Yet Another…..

What will it take to put an end to this madness? There have been 18 gun-related incidents this year in schools across our nation and sadly, it’s just February.
Is the 2nd amendment more important than the lives of our children? Seems that way. What is it going to take for politicians to knock off the Dem-Rep horse shit and do something? I’m not suggesting the confiscation of guns throughout this country. I’m all for people having guns to protect themselves, their families and their property. What I am NOT ok with just anyone being able to purchase a gun. And, I’m NOT ok with assault rifles! Even a deer hunter doesn’t need an assault rifle!
Too many people don’t know how to settle disputes without violence. Many have mental health issues. Some people don’t know how to handle rejection. Some people feel alone and desperate for attention. Some have issues with adults and/or authority figures in general. The list could go on and on… Too many people out there, for one reason or another, are not responsible enough to own a gun.
I don’t know the answer…..but I know that enough is enough! Our children are dying. Our teachers, administrators, and coaches are dying as they protect our children. If I still had school-aged children, they would be homeschooled! You can bank on that.
In the latest school shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida…. 17 dead, 15 injured. The gunman apparently had been expelled more than once from that school, for possession of firearms!!! He commented on YouTube that he wanted to be “a profession school shooter!” Who the F*CK does that? And why the F*CK wasn’t he on someone’s radar?
My heart breaks for the parents who lost a child yesterday. I can’t believe this keeps happening, over and over again, while our nation’s leaders say, “This is not the time to talk about gun control” or “Thoughts and prayers.” Give me a break!
