Not A Swiftie

I’m not a fan of Taylor Swift’s music. Actually, I wouldn’t know her music if it were playing on the radio. 

I don’t know why so many people are on the hate wagon where Swift is concerned. Some are pissed because she’s at her boyfriend’s football games, supporting him, and God forbid the cameras are on her and she’s being seen by millions of people cheering him on! Oh God, the nerve. Ridiculous! Some are pissed because she endorsed Kamala Harris for President. So freaking what?! She has the right to support any candidate she wants, just like the rest of us. Before you get your panties in a knot, she did NOT tell her fans to vote for Harris. She merely urged them to register to vote and to VOTE. Frankly, I’m glad she did publicly endorse Harris. Why leave any doubt after the orange moron implied that she endorsed him?  

Taylor Swift is a great role model for young girls…and all of us, truth be told. Whether we’re a fan or not, she has won 324 awards! When she was sexually assaulted she sued for just $1 and it took 2 years to win that case but she didn’t back down! She donates mass amounts of money to food banks in every city she performs. She has donated to schools and libraries, not just in the US but around the world. She donated $1 million to aid in disaster relief. She has donated to aid in the eradication of poaching, and nature conservation. She donated to a foundation for survivors of sexual assault. She donated a sizable amount to a pet rescue foundation. She has a generous heart, giving to people everywhere. Google it. If you don’t want to Google it, read here instead. 

It’s been said before, but every time you speak ill her…of any woman, your daughters hear you. Your nieces and nephews hear you. Your SONS hear you. Is this what you want the children in your life to hear? Do you want them to hear the disrespectful and hateful comments that you spew? Don’t teach your daughters that it’s ok for them to be disrespected like that. Don’t teach your sons that it’s ok for them to disrespect women. 

Let’s all step up and be better humans. It’s about time, don’t you think? 

What’s Eating Aunt Debbie?

I’ve been trying to find time all week to post but as my old Granny used to say, “If it ain’t one thing, it’s another.” And that sure is the truth! Today, the dreaded flat tire. Thankfully, it’s in the yard and I’m not stranded on the road somewhere. Anyway, it’s been quite a while since I did a What’s Eating Aunt Debbie? post so it’s about time, yes? There’s a lot on my mind these days…but now that I have some time to actually sit and write, I can’t think of everything I wanted to say! Go figure.

I’m so sick and tired of the lies and liars in politics these days. Namely, Donald J. Trump. Haitian immigrants are NOT eating cats and dogs for fuck’s sake! There are no reports, no evidence of this happening! What the hell is wrong with DJT? Aside from being the most ignorant man on the planet, and without a moral compass, I mean. Lies like this tend to cause harm to others. In this case, immigrants are being targeted by Trump supporters. When will they see what a lying sack of shit he is? Or do they know and they just don’t care because it gives them an excuse to be terrible people? And that JD Vance guy is a piece of work, isn’t he? He’s just as bad a DJT if not worse. I know no one’s perfect. ALL politicians put a spin on things. ALL politicians lie but when everything that comes out of their mouths is a flat-out lie, or misinformation/disinformation it’s just unacceptable! Let’s get back to “normal” ok? Get rid of DJT once and forever! If we elect that man as POTUS we deserve everything he dishes out. Please don’t throw away your vote. Vote BLUE.

Not too long ago, I was told that I should be able to be friends with people regardless of their political views. To a certain extent, that is correct. For example, I can be friends with someone of a different political party with different views but if they are perpetuating the misinformation and LIES, then I’m done with them. Spewing hate, racism, bigotry, and LIES tell me what kind of person they are. End of story.

What’s up with the Postal Service? I am sick to death of waiting and waiting for packages to arrive. Informed Delivery might tell me I have a package expected to arrive on a certain date but it actually arrives 3 or 4 days later. When I mail a package it takes forever for it to reach its destination. I don’t know if it’s the Postal Service here in SW MO or if it’s all over. We pay ridiculous shipping prices (that includes stamps!) so I think we should get what we pay for, don’t you? If we pay for Priority Mail (prices starting at $9.25 lb. for 2-3 business days) then we should expect delivery in 2-3 business days. I’ve shipped packages via Priority Mail (from SW MO) to my daughter in TN and had the package end up in FL and stuck there for a week! When it finally leaves FL it goes to Kansas City, MO, and sits for several days before it finally gets to my daughter. There is no excuse for this kind of service! I know shit happens sometimes, but come on! Similar things happen all the time. I just want the USPS to “shit or get off the pot,” as my old Granny used to say.

Are you a Facebook user? There’s always something going wrong or at least wonky. I check my Being Aunt Debbie page and see 2 notifications that tell me my “scheduled post has been published” but yet even after reading them, they don’t go away. One is from 2 weeks ago! I tried to delete them, clear them, and mark them as read but still, they don’t go away. Why doesn’t anything work the way it’s supposed to?

Yesterday, on the anniversary of 9/11, someone asked, “Why did the Twin Towers burn when they were made of steel?” I couldn’t believe the stupidity in that question! The Towers were not made entirely of steel. The framing was made of steel. But regardless of how much steel was used in building the Towers, there was still drywall, curtains, carpeting, flooring, furniture, paper products, and numerous other items that freakin’ BURN! Plus, you’ve got JET FUEL that exploded when it hit the buildings! Can you imagine how HOT that burned? If you fracture the structure or the foundation of any building IN THAT WAY you damn right the building will burn and come crashing down! Conspiracy Theorists, shut the fuck up already!

Choices

We all have to make choices in our lives. I think we can agree on that. But do WE have the right to force our thoughts or beliefs on others when they don’t make the same choice we would make? No, we do not. The choices others make is none of our business. Of course, I’m speaking about adults who are mentally capable; not children, not mentally challenged, or anyone else who doesn’t have the ability to make rational and safe decisions. 

So why the heck do others seem to think that another person’s choices are wrong? Just because that choice is not one we would make for ourselves for whatever reason, doesn’t mean that it’s wrong. 

If someone else’s choices are offensive to you, so what? Are your feelings or preferences more important than theirs? I think not. Just stay in your own lane and mind your own business. Let others live their lives and make their own choices. Life is hard enough without someone trying to make you do what they want you to do!

Just A Thought…

I know not everyone is on social media. I am on Facebook only because I want to keep in touch with my family and friends. (Isn’t that what Facebook was meant for anyway?)  I have a page set up for this blog as well, but I’m not too active on it. Anyway, Facebook has become the breeding zone for stupidity, rude-ass behavior, and misinformation.

The thing I’ve been seeing a lot of lately – actually since 2016 – are political posts. Sometimes, I check out the comments and it blows my mind how rude and ridiculous people can be. I can’t help but debate with myself about dropping off of Facebook for good…but then…family and friends…

Most of the comments are either from folks who agree or folks who fact-check everything – which is absolutely fine, as long as you don’t get your info from Fox News. Remember how they were sued for almost $800 million for outright lying to the viewers? Anyway, fact-check all you want but here’s a thought…

Make sure you fact-check your own posts before you add to the misinformation and stupidity out there!

Stay In Your Own Lane

Algerian boxer, Imane Khelif, was born a woman. She was born with some male chromosomes but that doesn’t make her a man. (There are many configurations besides XY and XX.) Khelif was born with female anatomy and determined to be female at birth. She was raised as a girl and she fights as a woman. She does not have an unfair advantage; she has been beaten several times.

It seems that the people bitching the most and perpetuating the misinformation are the same ones who think you should use the restroom corresponding to the gender that is on your birth certificate. The logic is nuts. I mean, if Khelif was born a woman then she would have to use the ladies’ restroom, yes? Then why shouldn’t she get in the boxing ring with females? Duh.

On a side note, their logic is kind of silly if you think about it. Picture this: A transgender man (born female at birth) is forced to use the ladies’ restroom based on gender assigned at birth. This burly trans-man with a beard walks into a ladies’ restroom to take a leak. Is this a scene that anyone would approve of? Especially if your 13 year old daughter had just gone into the restroom? Give me a break. That transgender man should be using the men’s restroom!

For those who don’t know or understand, being transgender means changing your physical appearance, including your genitals. This is done with hormone treatments and surgery. This isn’t done just willy-nilly. Many things are considered (age, gender identity, and mental and physical health) before being considered for transgender surgery. It is a long process. So that transgender man who just followed your daughter into the restroom, is no longer a woman and should not be using the ladies’ restroom!

We are all too quick to judge others. None of us know Khelif’s life story. None of us know how hard she has fought to get to where she is. She looks manly. So what? Big freaking deal! I have known several girls/women who look manly. That doesn’t make them men. And I have known boys/men who look girly. That doesn’t make them women.

Stop perpetuating lies, myths, and misinformation. Don’t believe everything you see and hear, on Facebook or otherwise. Stay in your own lane and don’t worry about how others live their lives. You do you. It’s really none of your business how others decide to live their lives. It’s not going to change the way you live your life, is it? Be a good human and not an asshole.
