“Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.” —Winnie the Poo

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the things I’m grateful for and the little things that make me smile. It’s a huge list! But right now, at this very moment, there are a few things that top the list. (Not necessarily in this order.)

BobCat is playing with himself. His claws scatter on the linoleum as he slides across the floor. Alice is watching him like he’s out of his mind.

My 5-year-old grandson just started preschool. He’s growing up so fast and he has a little brother now. That makes my smile huge!

Dad is giving in to the fact that he needs to walk with a cane to keep himself steady on his feet. What makes me smile is that I still have him.

My oldest grandson is into motocross, competing in races, and has won first place more than once. It makes me happy that he is doing so well.

My second oldest grandson is a math wiz!! It’s crazy! I can’t wait until he’s older then maybe he can balance my checkbook.

What small things fill your heart, right now at this very moment?

Turn It Off

I wish I could turn off the tv. Dad watches the news all damn day long. I’m all for staying informed, but I just can’t take a full diet of it. There’s so much hatred in the world. We are so divided as a nation. It sickens me that we have allowed this to happen to our country. The political divide will only deepen, especially if what happens is what I suspect will happen. I won’t get into that.

I wish all of us could put our phones down, turn off our TVs and just be kind and gentle humans. People are striking out at others over differences of opinion. Everyone thinks they’re right. We need to stop berating each other. Instead, we need to take care of each other and be aware of what is at stake. We can’t take on the ills of the world individually but we can sure as hell try as a nation.

Monday Motivation

“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.” – Anne Frank

What are you doing to make the world a better place?

10 Things You Can Do Today:

  1. Recycle paper, plastics, glass, aluminum. Find your local recycling center and get busy!
  2. Show kindness wherever you go! Smile at everyone. You aren’t the only one who may be having a rough time.
  3. Use less plastic. Switch to reusable grocery totes instead of plastic bags when shopping.
  4. Donate money to a local charity or donate clothing to a women’s shelter, or local charity.
  5. Cook a meal for a shut in. Be sure to find out about dietary needs and that your meal will be accepted. Some may not accept food from someone they don’t know. You could cook your parents or grand parents a meal, or your neighbor.
  6. If you’re able, walk or run a mile for charity! Good for others and good for your body, too.
  7. Volunteer at a local hospital, nursing home, or shelter.
  8. Volunteer at an animal shelter. Animals need love and care, too.
  9. Support small businesses! Instead of buying from the big guys, see if you can find your needs through small, family-owned businesses. They are working harder than the big guys to provide for their family, and/or put their children through school.
  10. Offer to mow your neighbor’s front lawn when you do yours!

There are so many ways to make the world a better place! What other ways can you think of?
