This and That

The house is coming along slowly. I wish it were going faster because I am missing or have missed some good sales on appliances, cabinets, and many other things. I can’t get anything until the drywall is up and the flooring is down. Then I can measure and decide what to get and actually have a place to put it. I have nowhere to store anything!! Ugh! I know. I’m trying to be patient. Really, I am.

Last night, I was working a jigsaw puzzle in the kitchen and listening to an audiobook when all of a sudden, there was a huge crash in the living room. All 3 cats shot out of the living room and went into hiding! Scared the living shit out of everyone. It was Dad. Poor thing fell down. He’s ok but it sure sounded like he landed hard. He took my fan down with him and spilled his meds all over the room. I had a hell of a time getting him off the floor. I told him if he would stop being stubborn and use his cane, he could avoid falling, at least cut the number of falls down. The next time he got up he was using his cane. Today, not so much. Still stubborn. I guess that’s where I get it.

I decided to take my chances and purchase a LegXercise machine. I know it won’t help my pain or mobility issues. Please don’t insist that it will, like so many people do, because I know more about my issues than anyone else. Anyway, I primarily bought the LegXercise machine to help the circulation in my legs. It’s not painful to use, but I am feeling a bit of added pain after using it for 2 days. I started at twice a day for 15 minutes each time. Today, I did it once for 15 minutes.

I’m going to try my hand this week sometime at making homemade enchilada sauce and salsa. I’ve made salsa before but it’s been a long, long time. The enchilada sauce will be a new experience. Thanks to a dear friend, I have a tried and true recipe to try! Wish me luck!

It appears that Old Man Winter isn’t finished with us just yet. Snow in the forecast this week will slow work on the house again. Thankfully, we have propane and we don’t have to go anywhere.

That’s it for today, friends. Be good, be safe, and try not to strangle your MAGA neighbors for they know not what they have done!

  1. Oh my Lord!! I hope dad is okay, this is the one thing we have to worry about when at their age their mobility or should I stability issues are constant. My mom’s fallen more times than I care to remember and thank God she hasn’t broken anything other than her pinky finger. It’s like we have kids all over again and they are even more stubborn. I know your enchilada sauce will be spectacular, lol. I make salsa every week because we can’t live without it. I make several kinds, green, red, Arbol which is very hot and salsa with Anaheim and poblanos to give it a bit of kick. We put it on almost everything or eat it with tostada chips.
Speaking of old man winter that rat bastard, we stated to warm up and then it got cold again on Sunday and on top of that, it got super windy. Currently I had to fight my way into the office against 45 mile per hour wind gusts that made it feel about 27 degrees. Not to mention that we haven’t gotten any rain and dust is flying everywhere. The wind is so strong that on my way on interstate 54 where I live, it overturned an 18 wheeler and of course that closed the freeway. The wind here is horrible and the dust makes it even worse. I hope that dad is doing well after his fall, and maybe he’ll start using his cane to avoid another fall. My best to you dear friend, dad and the entire pack!! Happy Cooking!!

    • Dad is doing ok, still a bit wobbly when he walks. Is he using his cane since his fall? Hell no. He’s so stubborn!

The wind has been blowing here, too. It was warm last week with sunshine that felt wonderful. Yesterday, the wind started and it’s still blowing. It blows in through the cat door, which blows in dust, which makes my kitchen floor crunchy! Lol. It sounds really bad over yonder in your neck of the woods. I hope your car isn’t too light. That could lead to troubles, although if an 18 wheeler overturned because of the wind, I guess it could happen to anyone. Be safe, my friend!

I’ll be doing the enchilada sauce in steps; one step today, one step tomorrow, etc. Unless my pain level gives me a damn break. I just never know! I always have salsa in the house AND FRank’s hot sauce! I buy them both in large jugs (maybe 2 qts.) because we use so much of it. Frank’s slogan is “I put that shit on everything” and it’s nearly the truth in my house! Same with salsa.

I’ll let you know how things go! Thanks again for the enchilada recipe! ❤ Take care and be safe. Hugs to you and the furbabies!

  2. So sorry to hear Dad fell again. I sure hope he starts using the cane more. Both my parents stared having stability issues and falling late in life. My mom wasn’t too much trouble but Dad was a big guy and took multiple people to get him back up. Mmm! homemade enchiladas sound delicious! We had a full on blizzard yesterday with wind gust over 60mph, now today it was in the 40s with everything melting. I think Mother Nature is having mood swings again. Keep working on your patience… the house will get done before you know it. Take care, Debbie!
