Are you old enough to remember MTV when they showed music videos all day long?
MTV debuted in 1981 and the very first video they played was by the Buggles called “Video Killed The Radio Star.” That was definitely a true statement, wasn’t it? Well, for a while anyway. I’m not sure about now. I listen to most of my music on the radio because videos are a waste of time. I guess it’s because I’m old. But rest assured, if MTV still played music videos like they used to, I’d be tuning in.
In the beginning years of MTV, they had very few videos because it hadn’t caught on yet so they aired the same videos over and over again! To this day, I hear people say they can’t stand so and so because MTV played their video so often…and I get that but the reason was because they didn’t have that many videos to play without repeating them!
As a teenager and young adult, I loved MTV! It gave us all access to our favorite bands and songs. We learned who the band members were individually and heard what they had to say at times. We watched shows like 120 Minutes, Headbanger’s Ball, and Behind The Music.
MTV stopped playing music videos and music-related shows around 2010 or so. Now they cater to the younger crowd who like to watch reality crap – which to me is just people making asses of themselves and getting paid for it. In short, MTV is no longer music oriented. There’s no music, no M and without music they should just change the name of the channel!
Here are some of the first videos I remember seeing on MTV. I hope you enjoy this jump back in time!

Well, I can’t think of any more of the first videos aired on MTV. Can you remember more? Ah, the good ol’ days…
Have a great day, friends. Thanks for visiting!
