Turn It Off

I wish I could turn off the tv. Dad watches the news all damn day long. I’m all for staying informed, but I just can’t take a full diet of it. There’s so much hatred in the world. We are so divided as a nation. It sickens me that we have allowed this to happen to our country. The political divide will only deepen, especially if what happens is what I suspect will happen. I won’t get into that.

I wish all of us could put our phones down, turn off our TVs and just be kind and gentle humans. People are striking out at others over differences of opinion. Everyone thinks they’re right. We need to stop berating each other. Instead, we need to take care of each other and be aware of what is at stake. We can’t take on the ills of the world individually but we can sure as hell try as a nation.

  1. Amen to that sister!! I don’t watch the news because it’s ridiculous how awful it’s gotten politically and socially. When did humanity start to think it’s okay that being rude is an everyday occurrence? I’ll answer my own question, with the rise of social media that’s when. That’s when people stopped being cordial and practice manners. I think it’s an old folks habit, my dad was the same, news all the time everyday with only a pause at 3pm to watch anything and everything on GRIT, which is a channel that plays nothing but westerns, lol.

    • Yes, I blame social media for the rise of several things….hatefulness, stupidity, lies, spite just to name a few.

Dad doesn’t watch anything besides news…aside from the hour I watch General Hospital. At around 7pm he gets out the ol’ trusty Firestick and finds a movie or a series to watch for a couple of hours but then it’s back to the news until he goes to bed. Ugh.
