Oh no! There I was. Stuck in the tub. I wondered, how the hell am I going to get out of here?
Let me explain.
A few weeks ago, I was in my therapist’s office. We were talking about how nice soaking in the tub would be…if only I could get in the tub. She told me that she receives donations from people who go to estate sales and she was given a bath chair lift. It sits in your tub and you use a remote to lower yourself into the water and then back up again when done.ย She said it needed to be cleaned up but if I waited a few minutes she would run home and get it. I wasn’t even sure if it would fit in my car at that point. I waited and she went home and brought it back. It did fit in my car so I took it home and cleaned it up.

It needed a charger, so I did my research and bought a charger. OMG, It was awesome to actually be able to take a bath again! (When you have really bad knees and mobility issues, it tends to be difficult getting up and down….and in my case, impossible.) I took several long soaks in the tub and was so very thankful… My therapist went above and beyond to help me and I could never express how grateful I truly am.
Anyway, a few nights ago I decided on a nice long soak with peppermint oil and Epsom salts. I lowered myself down into the nice hot water. I was relaxing quite nicely. The hot water, essential oil and salts were helping my pain level go down a bit. When I was ready to get out, I pushed the button to raise the chair….and nothing happened! OMG!! I pushed the button again! Nothing.ย I had just recharged the battery the night before so I knew it had a full charge! When I researched the lift, I read that if the chair doesn’t have enough power to lift you up then it won’t lower you down in the first place. What the heck was going on with this thing? I almost panicked. I sat there for a minute, trying to figure out how the hell I was going to get out of the damn tub! I didn’t want Dad to have to come help me — good grief. How strange would that be? I don’t think he would have been able to help me anyway. I didn’t want to have to call 911 because how embarrassing would that be? Especially since I know some of the EMT’s. So, I tried the button again.
Thankfully, the chair started moving upward, as it was supposed to. Boy, was I relieved!
Now I need to have a plan in place, just in case I ever do get stuck in the tub!
Oh, my! I would have been in a panic! Glad you were able to extract yourself via the chairlift. ๐

I can’t even imagine the “oh @%@” moment that must have been. I am so happy that you didn’t have to call someone to get you out. Could you even reach a phone? Oh my!

No phone nearby, but Dad was home. I probably would have been yelling for a while before he heard me though! Haha! It was a HUGE “oh @%@” moment, for sure! My mind was in a panic trying to think of how I was going to get out of the tub! Lol.

I’d be the same way! I fell out of my hammock a couple of weeks ago (don’t ask!) and it took me forever to get up. My knees were not happy.

I’m glad you got that machine moving again. Did you ever figure out why it wouldn’t function those couple of times you pressed it? Did the therapist provide you with an owner’s manual for this chairlift? Maybe it’s got a part of their troubleshooting section that mentions this type of problem and how to fix it.

I got it used with nothing but the controller and the chair lift. I have found info online, which is how I came to find the proper charger for it. The charger alone was $76 and it looks exactly like a cell phone charger so you can imagine the cost of the chair! Lol. There’s adequate info online; just still not sure why it didn’t budge when I pushed the button. Maybe it didn’t have a good connection…I don’t know. Just HAPPY it decided to work again! Hahaha!

I’m glad to hear it worked in the end.
I can;’t imagine how freaked out you must have been.
What I wonder about is how it works. Aren’t you afraid a spark will jump and electrocute you?

Yes, I was relieved!! Lol. No, it’s battery operated and was made specifically for this use. It’s a wonderful contraption! The remote is what has to be recharged and it has to be unplugged from the chair to recharge it. The charger plugs into the remote and the electrical outlet. When it’s charged you plug the remote back into the chair. Does that make sense? Google: Bellavita Bath Lift Thanks for reading! ๐
