I’m Still Kickin’

In case you were wondering, I am still alive and…not so well but that’s beside the point. I’m alive and kicking. Still pushing through, being patient, biting my tongue, and waiting. Yes, waiting; waiting for the house to be finished so we can move out of this dump.

Our guy has finished painting the interior of the house. The next step is flooring. I think it might be a long wait for that because our guy is going to have hip replacement surgery soon. I’m pretty sure he’s tired of being in pain and I can relate to that! I would just like for things to be done and DONE.

Our move from satellite internet to fiber optic internet is closer. On Father’s Day (of all days for them to work) the fiber optic guys came out and ran their cables outside to the house. We now wait until the next crew comes to do the inside. It shouldn’t take too long for them to drill a hole to tap into the cable in the box outside and hook up a modem. I hope my wi-fi router is compatible. It’s not very old so maybe I’ll luck out and not have to buy a new one.

It has taken me over an hour to get to this point in this post because Dad fell 3 times! He spilled a whole cup of coffee on the carpet, which is no big deal. The carpet is dirty and worn anyway and we’ll be moving soon (I hope) but I can’t leave a big, brown coffee spill without trying to clean it up. So, now that I have him situated, I’ll try to finish this.

The heat and humidity is draining every ounce of energy I have these days. I hate it. I used to love summers but that was when I lived in California. Missouri has a different kind of heat. It’s awful. I’m sweaty and sticky, uncomfortable every minute of every day. Nights are miserable, too. Who can sleep when it’s still 70+ degrees outside and nearly as warm inside? I use a wet kitchen towel to stay cool, at night and during the day. I sit under fans and sometimes the a/c. I refuse to cook anything or step outside if I don’t have to. I hate to shower because I step out of the shower and I’m sweaty and sticky all over again before I can even dry off! I can’t wait until Old Man Winter knocks on the door. The Fall is still too hot and the spiders are creeping everywhere! I’ll take Wintertime, anytime! I’m hoping to be out of this house before I have to complain about the heat again but we’ll see.

Anyway, I’m still around…sweating my ass off. I hope all is well in your neck of the woods!

  1. Hey there my friend, I’m glad to know that you are still kicking it, lol. OMG, dad has fallen three times?! What the hell? I hope he’s alright and didn’t get burned with the hot coffee he spilled. I understand about not being able to bare the heat and humidity. Lately we’ve hit triple digits here in Texas and it’s been okay except for the fact that Satan is ironing his britches making it even hotter. But now? Now we have 68% humidity, and I’m not even sure how the hell that’s even possible since it hasn’t rained ONE DAMNED DROP!!! I feel like you do, I move just a bit, I’m sweaty and sticky. I sneeze and I’m sweaty and sticky, I cough and I’m…..well you get the point. This past weekend I took a shower three times on Saturday and Sunday because I was cleaning and doing housework and sweating like a pig at a luau. I don’t have refrigerated air because I can’t afford it. I have a Master Cool but that’s just a fancy way of saying, upgraded swamp cooler. And with the humidity, you can’t feel the cool, you only feel the wet. I’m with you, I hope that the Fall comes fast because I HATE the summer. I’d rather much bundle up than be hot, sticky and uncomfortable. Oh and did I mention that one of my neighbors is building an addition to their house and all of a sudden, I have ALL KINDS OF DAMNED BUGS in my house because they dug up their back yard!!!!! I’m constantly killing spiders, rollie polis and roaches! Roaches are the worst, and I’m freaking tired of having them in my house when I didn’t have them before!! Ugh!!!! Anyway, hoping things cool down for you my friend. Hugs to you, dad and the pack!
P.S Wayne came back from the vet and they did a lot of bloodwork on him and he’s fine. They gave him a shot for arthritis to see if that would help his mobility because his x-rays didn’t show him hurt of anything broken. He’s being kept inside now and he is NOT a happy camper, but I’m not letting him out anymore because he’s sick.

    • LOL. Satan is ironing his britches!! I might have to steal that! Hilarious! Omg. It’s too hot to do anything! Our temps are still in the 90s, but it may as well be 100. It all feels the same once you hit 90 degrees. Ugh. I’m sorry about all the bugs. I know how it is because we live out in the boonies and I swear I see every bug known to man out here. There are even scorpions here but thankfully and knock on wood, I haven’t seen one. Cockroaches would survive a nuclear blast. I hate those damn things. I’m glad Wayne is ok but does he not have feline leukemia? Did the shot help him walk better? You just keep telling that little bugger that he’s safer inside than out. Eventually, he will get used to it. BobCat sneaks out every chance he gets but he doesn’t go far. After he heats up a bit he usually comes to the door or comes when I holler. The little shit.

      • Lol, thanks my friend. No, Wayne has FIV, the cat version of HIV. He was in a fight back in March and came back with a huge bite on his front paw. I think that’s how he got infected. So, now jus to make sure he stays healthy, I keep him inside. I haven’t seen his mobility improve since the shot, but the vet did tell me that it would take about a week to notice any difference. H that BobCat, lol why do all cat just love to do what we don’t want them to do? 🙄

  2. Yes, this heat and humidity SUCK! Tomorrow sounds like a “decent” day of only 82° with about 65% humidity, but then back near 90’s again. I sure hope Dad is ok… 3 falls in one afternoon is a LOT! Can you duct tape a cane or walker to his hands or would that be too much? Seriously I hope his falls are not that bad all the time. Hang in there and stay cool as possible. ☃️❄️🌨️

    • Actually, he usually doesn’t fall more than once but that day was a bad one. Ugh. Last night he fell getting ready for bed. The new house cannot get done fast enough! I’m so stressed out all the time and when my sister comes it will be a load off my mind. It won’t all fall on my shoulders.

Yes, less humid today. I was able to shower and stay dry long enough to get my deodorant and clothes on!
